I have been working at Dick's Sporting Goods full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Some great people, fun/interesting work and product, employee discount, 401K, insurance, gym on-site, other benefits/perks, room for personal and professional growth (in some areas), work-life balance (some areas)

    Cons

High turnover, poor communication from the top, often feels short term focused to hit numbers, discrepancies in compensation across the same position for no apparent reason (some areas), difficult advancement (some areas), long hours (some areas)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

-Improve communication to the rest of company rather than us finding out information from outside sources first
-Adjust salaries to better reflect the value of the employee
-Think longer term rather than short term

Loved the people and environment, hate the retail hours but that's retail in general.

I have been working at Dick's Sporting Goods part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

It's a easy job. Just show up and do your job and you should not have any problems. Managers were easy to talk to and get along with. Coworkers were pretty cool.

    Cons

The hours are all over the place so it makes it hard for a normal sleep schedule. But that's anywhere in retail.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Schedule more people during times where a lot of projects need to get done instead of asking people to come in early or stay later or come in on their day off.

I worked at Dick's Sporting Goods full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

The gym is incredible. The food in the cafeteria is great. There is a Starbucks and a bank in the corporate office. The people are great.

    Cons

Much of the leadership team seems to operate trying to guess what the CEO wants. When they guess wrong there is a lot of double work done.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Empower the capable people on the team.

The managers are very helpful when employees have any questions when assisting managers.

    Cons

When working part time your schedule can be very unpredictable week to week and you almost always work weekends.

I have been working at Dick's Sporting Goods

    Pros

Overall, it is a very laid back position. Work with fun people who have good personalities (majority.) Great discounts.

    Cons

Dealing with rude customers. The company doesn't care about their associates, or so it seems like. Management skill are questionable at times.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I think if they provided better compensation to not only the associates but the store managers as well things would be a little more streamlined. People would be more dedicated to their job as well. As of right now, a lot of employees think of it as a blow off "get me through college" job.
