    Useful for providing experience

Teaching Assistant (Former Employee) Carlisle, PA

ProsAs a student worker it's really nice how many options Dickinson offers its students as a co-curricular activity. The workplace in most offices are engaging and it's nice to see the results right away in the small college community.

ConsWages for student workers are very low (average 7-8$/hour)

    Decent

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Carlisle, PA

ProsSalary, excellent benefits, quiet small town location, some students, staff and faculty make job rewarding

ConsLack of commitment and desire for change by upper management, lack of diversity among staff, sexist, lack of support, evident "entitled class" of faculty, students of color experience bias that is often not addressed, lack of career mobility, lack of social life, community has a racist tone

Advice to Senior ManagementCritically examine the effectiveness of the upper echelons of administration in regards to the status of women and traditionally underrepresented students and staff on campus. Hold them accountable for the lack of retention of staff due to their mismanagement. It is time for a CHANGE!

Dickinson under Durden a great place to work

Visiting Assistant Professor (Former Employee) Carlisle, PA

ProsExcellent president who understood faculty and students needs and the politics of working with its board of trustees. Students are engaged in community activities and most do their homework and contribute in class. Class sizes are small except for a few high demand classes for freshmen. Excellent global education program.

ConsCarlisle, PA is in the middle of nowhere. The town does not have an airport. the closest city is Harrisburg. Even though Harrisburg is PA's state capital, the place is quiet. The Harrisburg airport does not have many flights and the few it has are expensive. If you are single or a person of color you are unlikely to meet many people who look like you.

Advice to Senior ManagementEnsure that new president is as accessible as Durden was.

    Dinning Services Student Worker

Dining Services Student Worker (Former Employee) Carlisle, PA

ProsIt is a very easy job in the dinning hall, but Snar and Querry can be a little demanding depending on the time of shifts.

ConsSometimes, things is slow in the dinning hall so the job can be boring. You learn more skills in Snar and Querry. The pay is the PA minimum wage.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe student supervisors in the dining can be very nice, but they form their own group. Snar and Querry have adult supervisors/coworkers. Being respectful to them usually generates positive relationships.

    Great Place to Work

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Carlisle, PA

ProsDickinson College is a supportive employer that provides competitive compensation, excellent benefits, excellent vacation and flexible work hours. It is the premier employer in its community.

ConsSince the college is small, opportunities for advancement can be limited. Also, the college is located in a smallish town that is still not too far from Washington, New York and Baltimore.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe college has done a great job of communicating with its employees during the recession. It just needs to continue that effort as the economy improves.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend
