I have been working at Dignity Health

    Pros

Good people to work with and the mission of the organization is one that is easy to support.

There could be more investment in ongoing technical training to allow the workforce perform at a higher level.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Improve communication of strategy and invest more in employee training.

  2.

Leadership has no confidence in hospital President. Gossip and bad-mouthing among administrative team is de rigueur.

    I worked at Dignity Health

    Pros

Friendliness of staff. This is a great company with a commitment to their employees. They truly make you feel welcome and valued.

    Cons

There are no challenges that I can think of, there is a great deal of room for growth and this company encourages moving up the ranks from within.

Why the name change from Catholic Healthcare West?

    I worked at Dignity Health

    Pros

none. Although, they do have charming portraits of nuns from days of yesteryear

    Cons

Approximately two years ago a surgeon was in the process of attempting to save a troubled pregnancy. It appeared the fetus would have only a 10% chance of survival if the delivery proceeded. The woman on the other hand would have a 40% opportunity to live.

His decision was to abort the fetus thereby saving the woman's life, to perhaps have a child at some future date.

Remember this was "Catholic" Healthcare West. The surgeon was fired on the spot, at which point an entire name change to "Dignity" Health took place over a weekend. Then a rather porkish representative (try a better lifestyle), made a live appearance on the media stating that the management felt "Dignity" better represented the organization's profile.

    Right...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

No advice to management, but rather to the Board of Directors of this For-Profit organization owning 42 or more hospitals -- there is a reason many private sector individuals in the Silicon Valley would not set foot in a healthcare institution. The IQ from physicians down appears to be shaped as an inverted triangle.

I have been working at Dignity Health full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

The ER I work in is very flexible with everyones schedule. The nursing staff is the reason nurses stay in this department.

    Cons

I try to stick to the positives. Everyone will have a different opinion on what to expect from and employer. Leadership is the area in which improvement is most needed

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need help to become a cohesive leadership team. The department and organization seem very reactionary as opposed to forward planning and implementation.

I worked at Dignity Health part-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Seriously strive to live up to their mission statement of quality patient care.

    Cons

They sold HCCL, the division I worked for without giving a contractually obligated 90 notice. Even with that, I would work there again.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It might be helpful for corporate to leave the rarified air now and again and see how things their policies actually play out in the trenches.

I have been working at Dignity Health full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Health, dental and vision benefits very good.

    Cons

Paid time off is 20 days a year or so including official holidays. Management spends money on "marketing" the President while laying off people in the facilities and corporate offices. DH promtes hello humankindness aa if they invented the concept of kindness. Kindness starts at home not in advertising spots in newspapers and tv. Management treatment of people very, very poor. Managers in my department treat staff with disrespect. People are starting to leave now that more jobs are available rlsewhere.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Corporate leadership should Reduce your salaries and bonuses and use the money to improve services. Stop the junket tours to Italy, London and elsewhere and use company's money for patient care.

I have been working at Dignity Health full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Opportunities are given to you when you seek them out
If you work hard here, people will notice quickly
lots of different avenues to take with positions, flexibility

    Cons

avoid gossip and do your job well - this goes for anywhere you work

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do not be passive with your staff - keep them in line or it does everyone who works with them a diservice (and reflects poorly on you, not them)
