Pros
meet lots of great people, learn lots of great business techniques.
Cons
not enough help to get things done, that need to get done in the time frame they want.
Advice to Senior Management
need more checkers, so you are not pulling people out of other departments
Pros
Good company as far as vision and how it conducts business.
Cons
Lousy employee relations and lacks in employee engagement in associate growing in the company
Advice to Senior Management
I think that they want more associate engagement but are not willing to move in that direction or make it a priority for new hires
Pros
The long-time employees worked together as a team and made work fun.
We were always busy and confronted with new challenges every day.
The benefits at the time I worked there were great.......very little came out of pocket and good coverage.
Cons
Promotions within the store were based on what benefited the manager's style - if he was satisfied with the department you worked in, you wouldn't get the promotion in another department.
I was once told that I wasn't receiving the internal job as a department head because it was a "man's job".
Once you topped your pay scale, the raises stopped, unless you were promoted.
Advice to Senior Management
Take care of the hard-working employees who are willing to rearrange their hours during the week to eliminate overtime, who take pride in their work, who are versatile in different departments and who care about the organization. Give them the opportunity to advance!!!!
Pros
there lots of good and talented people at the company. They provide very reasonable pay. Vacation time is excellent and above average.
Cons
The place has extremely long working hours and lots of travel therefore the social life of someone working at the company maybe strained.
Advice to Senior Management
Management should try to adjust the amount of work that is distrubtd between workers. Also they should attempt and retain the best people
Pros
Even though i savagely rate Dillons as horrible place of employment, i must admit they are incredibly flexible as far as scheduling goes. With the exception of the occasional mix-up, Dillons is very good about granting time off and adequate vacation time to its' workers.
Cons
As the title of my review may suggest, Dillons has been a very negative experience in my employment thus far. Most jobs in customer service these days have become exceedingly difficult due to society's lack of respect for fellow humans, and Dillons has only worsened this. Incompetent lower level management has made morale constantly low, along with the the every present thought looming over your head, "Even if i do my absolute best, i will still only get paid as much as if i did my absolute worst". This combined with the very few employee benefits makes it harder and harder for baggers and checkers to force a smile and utter the phrase "have a great day" as they feel their mind slowly cracking. Promotions are very scarce and are usually given to less-than-qualified workers, making it harder for employees to trust and respect their superiors.
The dreaded job of the bagger, is to retrieve carts from the parking lot. During the summer, this job becomes unbearable as the store gets busier and the bagger must spend more and more time outside retrieving stack after stack. Only to return inside the barely air-conditioned store and try as best the bagger can to keep a smile on his/her face and again utter the phrase "have a great day" as they stand dripping in sweat, soaked to the bone in the white dress shirt, black dress pants, and apron the dress code requires them to wear.
As much as most of this may be considered "part of the job" there is a line separating cruel from reasonable that is frequently crossed here at Dillons.
Advice to Senior Management
If management were to think more about their employees and a little less on customer satisfaction, all of the company would be more motivated to do its best and in turn, would raise customer satisfaction higher than it is now.
Pros
management works well to schedule employees desired hours
despite a hectic atmosphere management and coworkers work as a team
Cons
computer system is not adequate for a busy pharmacy
dress code is limiting
Advice to Senior Management
no advice
Pros
I have experienced very flexible hours, this is very important to me as a college student. I had the opportunity to advance from bagger, to checker, to pharmacy clerk in just under a year.
Cons
Dillon's is owned by Kroger and therefor is very concerned about profit and less concerned about its employees. I feel they don't pay enough.
Advice to Senior Management
Management should have more common sense and not cut hours so customers don't go elsewhere because they have to wait in line so long.
Pros
The only reasons to work at Dillon's warehouse are the benefits and the salary. They are both satisfactory. If you need to provide for a family, it comes recommended.
Cons
The upper management is very unforgiving towards employees with medical issues. I have possible cancer in my lungs and I am on the verge of being fired for being off for treatment.
Advice to Senior Management
Understand medical issues and that people have"stuff" happen. I made it to work everyday during a big ice storm when nearly everyone else was absent or late.
