    Pros

Salary's decent and location's great if you live south of the river. Pension is good and work/life balance is great - very understanding HR policies.

    Cons

Gets bogged down in debate/process - can't see the wood for the trees. Company values (created by "the people") are bog-standard and can be contradictory - they also don't appear to apply to people of a certain level of seniority.

    Advice to Management

Still too many old timers from the RBS era hanging around who haven't truly bought into the vision for DLG.

I worked at Direct Line Group full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Manchester office very friendly I was paid very well for what I was doing (as I was an external hire) Didn't worry about job when I wasn't there Useful experience for getting a job somewhere that actually values you I've put yes for recommend to friend but it would depend on what they were looking for - serious job with prospects NO. Nice people with OK/middling every day job - YES

    Cons

Size of the company naturally means you're just a number - however I have worked at other large UK companies that didn't make this feel quite so obvious Call centre environment Pay rises once you are in absolutely pitiful. Make sure you start on a salary you'll be happy with for a long time! If the job I'd applied for had been the one I'd been given may still be there so would recommend you try to find someone currently doing job you are looking at. IT systems - terrible. They break every day - this may improve new system was having teething symptoms when I was there. There are too many people who don't pull their weight leaving the few that do to do the majority of the work and they were allowed to get away with it.

    Advice to Management

Be honest at the interview about prospects for advancement. Don't tell people its not a call centre at interview. If there are boards on the wall and people shouting at people to go on available then its a call centre pay your staff who are internal promotions better! A lot of people have a great spirit at DLG and their pay is the main thing peeing them off. you pay external hires huge amounts more. Be fair!!! Please pay more attention to who is doing what and when people are getting away with taking 3 calls a day and others are taking 20+ this happened to me on a daily basis for months!!

I worked at Direct Line Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great people within the team. Reasonable salary levels compared to other companies. Decent pension. Supportive stakeholders.

    Cons

Essentially poor management, no leadership and no clear direction. Company objectives unclear and under communicated. Bromley centric approach with little consideration of "the big organisation".

    Advice to Management

The world does not revolve around Bromley! Ther is some excellent talent across the business. Consider the negative impacts poor managers are having in their teams and remove under performing managers. They are stifling your business and you are losing good people as a result of incompetent managers.

I have been working at Direct Line Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You always get a salary at the end of the pain you endure. Its a decent job for people with no good education & no real knowledge of the world. If you are one of those who gets knowledge of the world though 'Daily Mail', you watch Big Brother & like walking around with protein shakes. If all you can think about is shopping & how much drunk you want to get on the weekend then this is an ideal job is for you. Apply Today

    Cons

Unless you have a good relation with your manager, you are doomed. We are treated as robots. You have to go for a break exactly when you are scheduled to. Absolutely pathetic place to work. 80% of the call centre staff would leave in a heart beat if they get a better job elsewhere. The worst part is the management knows about the low morale but no one seems to care. Even our work place is so dirty and unclean, it just goes to show how know one gives a toss about the staff. There have been various new measures been undertaken to penalize staff for the errors they make but nothing to reward them for the hard work they put in. 90% of the staff leave as they get a job elsewhere but not due to growth.

    Advice to Management

Think about your consultants. They are the ones who mainly help generate the revenue for the company.
