I worked at DirectSat USA full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I like that it was a bit more easy going than most jobs of this type. They arent always on top of you and they were pretty fair about their rules an regulations. It seems like everything is on the fly here and rarely is anything carefully coordinated or planned. They also like to cut and change hours with little notice at times.

    Cons

Pay is a bit low. Constant changes from week to week. Im sure you heard this before but it really applies here. While i wouldnt say the place was dirty most other places i worked at had better appeal. They hire anyone that come in through the door. So youll be around some weird people and a lot of people who are rough around the edges sorta speak.

    Pros

Pay is good if you can stay at a level 3 or 4 as a technician,,,a hard task within itself considering the fudging of score card numbers in their favor

    Cons

The scorecard is completely altered so that they keep you at a level 1 instead of making the real money at higher levels 3 or 4. They rate you based on a matrix that is completely out of your hands. Customer survey is about 40%. Requires 10 good surveys to cancel 1. Meaning you have 1 person that is unsatisfied or confused you are at 0. Repeat service calls are always you fault and take points away If you do everything you can control and have a major storm come through and it takes awhile to fix all systems you lose major points and end up fired.

    Advice to Management

Totally revamp the scoring system and remove issues on the scorecard that are out of the technicians hands,,people will be nice to you while your day and then give you a bad rating on the phone because of a customer service issue

    Pros

You have the potential to make a lot of money.

    Cons

Long drive times, long days and only Sunday off. The score card is too complicated.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your techs and simplify the score card.

I worked at DirectSat USA full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great way to meet new people. That is about it. The only thing else is good paychecks but not for the hours.

    Cons

Look forward to 6 days a week, onsite to 1st customer at 8 (doesn't matter if they are 1+hrs away) and be back home somewhere between 6 to midnight. They rate you based on a matrix that is completely out of your hands. Customer survey is about 40%. Requires 10 good surveys to cancel 1. Meaning you have 1 person that is unsatisfied or confused you are at 0. Repeat service calls are always you fault and take points away ($68.50 as well if you are a sub). If you do everything you can control and have a major storm come through and it takes awhile to fix all systems you lose major points and end up fired.

    Advice to Management

Local management does what they can to help, but have their hands tied due to Directsat and DirecTV work policies. The whole system is designed for them to pay the least amount and work you til you quit or get fired. Average turnover is about 6 months. Most don't last a month in the field.

    Pros

The money is great management is solid and there is great structure.

    Cons

Drive times between jobs sometimes reaches a hour this sucks. The scorecard based pay system seems like a game that you can't always control.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work keep listening to the techs feedback thanks.

  7. DirectSat USA found a way to make money at the DirecTV HSP game... albeit from the techs themselves.

I have been working at DirectSat USA full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

-Company provides vehicle and gas card (but you have to find parking near your home). -You get 1 or 2 days off a week (but you don't get to pick them, nor are they necessarily consecutive). -There's usually always a lot of work (because technicians are always getting fired for some reason or another).

    Cons

-Piece rate pay = level 1 techs paying for level 4 techs. -Scorecard including 20 near impossible matrics set forth by DirecTV that have little to do with technician job. -Quarterly pay rate swings of between 20 and 50 percent between levels. -Health benefits cost 3 times industry standard (due to extremely risky nature of work). -Wholly inadequate training and field support for technicians. -Parent company UniteK Global Services is going through chapter 11 bankruptcy.

    Advice to Management

Upper management needs to: -Dump the "if you don't like our way of doing things, find another bleeping job" attitude. -Hire enough supervisors to allow technicians to perform work safely. -Up-train under-performers instead of firing them for union sympathizing. -Staff enough technicians to get work done in-house instead of shirking off work onto 1099 labor. -Hire authentic "new" people and actually train them up, instead of relying on revolving door subcontractors.

    Pros

work ethic and employees are good but not great. management is there but no help

    Cons

micro-management, constant bombardment of work. upper management exists but don't.

    Advice to Management

to learn how to listen, learn and teach. everyone is a student first and teacher later.

    Pros

    Free TV and okay pay

    Cons

You work about 70 hours a week. They wont pay drive time they could care less about your family u are just a number on a board and your pay rate changes every three months and most of it is out of your control.

    Advice to Management

If they spent more time in the field they would see how much harder it is now verse when they were in the field. Throw that scorecard out the window and build this thing from the ground up if you can get your techs to do quality work then your job would be easy
