    Good sales training.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsPeople are nice, dress is business casual. Inservice training on the sales process is good if you're new at sales.

ConsNot much promotion opportunities because everyone likes their job and stays put. Top-down decision making.

The future is not so bright

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsThe people who work at Disc Makers are musicians or have a strong interest in music. This creates a social workplace that is mostly fun and energetic. Many appear to care about their job and the success of the business.

ConsCD sales have had a big impact on the business. Several large layoffs over the last few years have had a heavy impact on moral. Management does not appear to recognize this and is not doing anything about it.

    It is an OK job

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsThe owner genuinely cares about his employees. As long as you do your work correctly, no one bothers you. You get holidays off, and paid vacation.

ConsThere isn't much opportunity, and not much room to grow.

Dead end job, just a bunch of rich a-holes trying to get richer with no opportunities to get promoted. Depressing job.

    Customer Service (Former Employee)
    Portland, OR

    ProsThey gave you time off.
They let me work 4 10 hour shifts.
    HR was good.
    Flexible about time off sometimes.

ConsManagement was very aloof and disconnected from employees.
Only care about the shareholders making money.
No feedback from management about where the companies going.
    No opportunity for upward mobility.
You just want to work just hard enough to not get fired.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe a lot cooler to your employees and make it a fun place to work. Pay employees a lot more and fire the ones who don't cut it. Make it a place people WANT to work. Make it a place where the current employees WANT to work harder for you.

    Easy parking

    ConsNot enough time off
Men promoted and respected more than women
    No women in senior management
Some coworkers who have worked there for dozens of years are not very competent

Advice to Senior ManagementHire a woman for a senior management position
Evaluate longstanding employees' performance - may be way below newer employees

Great place to work, if you happen to be one of the dozen or so people (out of roughly 400) actually making money.

    Former Pennsauken Employee (Former Employee)
    Pennsauken, NJ

ProsIf you're into audio, music, or film, the people who work here are amazing. I've made some very nice friendships with coworkers. Casual dress code keeps wardrobe cost down. The hours are attractive (9am to 5pm), and at first, it doesn't feel "corporate" - it does feel challenging yet supportive at the outset.

ConsA year in, you've gotten as much satisfaction as you're going to get. Abhorrently low wage for the work. Next to no opportunity to advance. All of the money is concentrated among the executive cabinet, with a few scraps thrown to team leaders (project managers of long tenure). "Raises" that don't come close to covering inflation. "Performance reviews" that serve merely as a reason to withhold a meaningful raise and don't correlate to actual performance. Lots of carrot and stick. Dramatic layoffs (think like 20%) without any procedural changes, employees just expected to do extra time to make the money for the executives. For a company buying up competing and complementary companies with abandon, crying poor during layoffs and sorry raises is insulting.

Advice to Senior ManagementGive good employees a reason to stay and a path to career advancement. Take some pay cuts yourselves, instead of just sloughing off one job in five.

    A sinking ship.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsCasual dress, free water & coffee.

ConsManagement is cutting good people and leaving incompetent around. The place is getting more empty every month and it is very depressing. Not much on the horizon even though management tries to paint a sort of bright picture. Their technology is a dying one so they are moving to online & digital sales to keep them afloat. They will cut more just to ensure the board makes money.

Advice to Senior ManagementSpend less time reading staff email to see who is talking about ill about your company and make things better for those still working there.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Started off good, but the company is going down the drain

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

    ProsGood benefits and vacation time

ConsNo communication, layoffs, poorly choosen management, poorly set up departments, its all in who you know instead of how hard you work, poor employee moral

Advice to Senior ManagementLearn management skills, communication skills, stop the double standards, more timely training when necessary, more respect for hard working employees etc...
