Pros
good working at the local level ,when you have enough and the Right Vehicles that you can rent successfully that your customers want
Cons
Head office far removed from field operation ,all supplies are to come from head office, the time delay can be up to 3 weeks before the supplies reach the branch.
Advice to Senior Management
Check out what is going on in the Branches away from HO do not rely only on your Regional Managers
Pros
full time, benefits, flexibility of management. time off requests granted as long as you ask before the schedule is posted. really fun people to work with. you get to see and communicate with people from all walks of life. lunch provided on days going into the long weekend, managers sometimes just provide treats for the staff for the day. you get to drive some amazing cars!! the way the bonus system is structured, everyone has the ability to make more then just their salary every month.
there are lots of opportunities for growth within the company if you want them. you also have the ability to just stay in the position you hold if that's all you choose. the company is always looking for ways to grow and depends on everyone in their employ to help do so. everyone's suggestions are listened to and taken into consideration. staff is all very helpful when it comes to training purposes (you are not left hung out to dry if you dont know something!) you are given a 3 month learning curve with the potential of a $1000 raise after the 6 month period permitting you do well on your review.
management will back you up 100% if you are a hardworking and honest employee.
Cons
long hours-44 + hours a week. most shifts are 10 or 11 hours long. it's not a job you can just clock out of at 530. sometimes you are there passed your scheduled time.
as in every job, there can be some angry customers. it happens. if you don't deal with confrontation well this may not be the job for you. people are always there to challenge you or push for a better deal but again, there's customers/clients like that no matter where you work.
Advice to Senior Management
my manager is great. well organized, pays attention to detail and makes sure that they speak with all staff individually just to make sure they are happy and satisfied with the way things are going for them. any issues are always dealt with, they are a very positive influence on the staff and well liked and respected. i don't have any advice because i feel as though they are doing a fantastic job in their position :)
Pros
2 days off per week
Cons
Low pay (around Min Wage), little or no respect, no fleet, high turnover. When things go wrong they can go Very wrong. When things go right, (rarely), someone else gets the credit. Too much recognition for some who do things that we all do regularly. (Stay late to clean cars?) (Drove a customer to another location?)
Advice to Senior Management
None
Pros
Family owned business, no shareholders, most of the decisions have to be approved only by one person. As a branch manager you get exposed to all aspects of managing your location because most of the work is done within your branch and not in head office like it is in many other large corporations.
Cons
Initially the company presents itself as a family owned and managed business that cares about its employees and their success. In reality it greatly underpays for the work that your management requires from you to do as well as does not live up to the guarantees and promises made in regards to your career advancement and compensation package. Also very cheap company and does not spend any money in team building events. Stay away as it might suck you in hopes for a bright future, but in reality you will get long hours, very low compensation based on the industry standards, no recognition or gratitude when your performance is exceptional and once you realize that it is enough and you want to move on to a better career opportunity, Discount will make every effort to screw you over in final payouts (salary, bonus and especially your expenses).
P.S: this bad review is not a result of a conflict with immediate manager, but an overview of the management strategy of upper management and head office.
Advice to Senior Management
Listen more to the feedback of the people working on the front line, try to hold on to and recognize individuals who work hard, stay true to your corporate vision and to promises you make to your employees who form the backbone of your company.
Pros
Its easy when you know the job and there is something new every day. Problem resolution is part of day to day operations and you can make a lot of commission if you're good at it.
Cons
When i worked there , i was a student. They were not flexible with the work hours when i needed to work a different day. There is also a lot of disorganisation, and they need to get organised. Their mision is to provide an exellent costumer service and is not always the case because somethimes there is no cars to rent for customers who reserved the car 4 weeks in advance. I think is a shame! If you can handle the stress of an unhappy customer every 2 hours per day, then is probably something for you.
Advice to Senior Management
Get organised and fast!
Pros
If you need a job to pay the basic bills then this is a good place. You get to learn insurance field tasks, and sharpen up your customer service ability.
Cons
You don't have any support from the management, your left to hang dry when the problems become too much to handle. When your doing 110% your left feeling like it's not enough. The company needs to work better with their staff, so the company can grow. Everyone is thinking for themself, and is willing to throw you to the dogs before they help you out.
Advice to Senior Management
No company will work, if you think employee's are a dime a dozen
Pros
The only good reason to work for Discount is if you need a summer job with decent bonus pay.
Cons
I worked in the call centre which was a very stressful environment. Most of my fellow co-workers did not last throughout their contract till the end of the summer. I was the last person in my group who started from the very beginning when my contract was over. You feel like every single move you make is being watched and when you do make a mistake they replay your telephone conversation so that all other employees can hear you. It is quite discouraging and humiliating.
Advice to Senior Management
Be more friendly since most of senior management alienated all the workers.
