Difficult manual labor that ended up being fun and a good experience.

    Tire Technician (Current Employee)
    Houston, TX

ProsLearned a lot about cars, machines and safety. Bond formed between all of the guys

ConsThe hot days are very hot and the cold days are very cold. Working in these conditions was the most difficult part.

Advice to Senior ManagementOffer raises for motivation, even if its 10 cents a month

Fun at times, but annoying as well.

    Service Coordinator (Current Employee)
    Dallas, TX

ProsDecent pay for high school or college students. Summer and winter bonuses. Learn a little about cars. Opportunity to earn raises and move up.

ConsDTC only promotes from within. Everyone starts out part time. Management is often stupid or feels superior to part time employees. Hard to get hours at times and the weather is the worst part. Texas is hot in the summer in case people haven't noticed. Stores rarely close on time because customers are either ignorant of closing times or don't care.

Advice to Senior ManagementDon't treat part time employees as poorly. A little respect goes a long way. Especially if some of the people under you trained you. I have no problem reminding some guys that they started out cleaning the crapper while I was working on cars in the bays.

    Encouraging company to work for

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsThe peopke make the industry standards. You will be very knowledgeable about tge industry. Everyone is more like family and everyone relies on each other.

ConsManagement for the region on the corporate level is so back and forth and. It hard to focus on something to better your store, once your getting close they will change the aspect of what they are looking at and knock you for something else. When looking at the big picture of business it just seems they only want to knit pick all the small things and force people out especialy if they have been there a while.
Super long work hours which are expected to a certain point but is hard to endure when the V.P promises it will never happen again but still happens year after year.
You are expected to let customers walk all over you and give them anything they wish for and if you dont, corporate will promise them everything for any inconveniance, lead them back to your store so the customer can throw that in your face. Very un business like and unnerving.

Advice to Senior ManagementThese guys give you so much of their lives give them actual praise not cheesy fake smiles and b.s handshakes you dont care to give. Stop using scare tactics sneaking into stores, this doesnt benefit anyone.

    Good Job

    Apprentice Tech (Former Employee)

ProsMoney every Friday and good people if you work hard

    ConsPhysically draining and time consuming

Advice to Senior ManagementYou need to relax and get to know backroom techs more personally, and they will want to work harder and faster through out the day, trust me. Also store owners and seniors should plan for weekly or bi weekly eating arrangements for workers that stay all day, and only get a short break less than 45 minutes.

Great experience, this company treats it's workers very well.

    Crew Chief (Former Employee)
    Kalamazoo, MI

ProsI was able to work a full 40 hour week between Monday and Thursday, while usually still being able to be home by 7 P.M . Bi-annual bonuses were also great. The work is physically demanding, so it keeps you in shape. It is also fairly easy to learn. Plenty of room for advancement, but everyone starts out as a Tire Technician. No college degree is required. I work here during college and it put plenty of money in my pocket.

ConsWorking in extreme weather can be a real bummer, but if you're prepared for it you will be fine. November-December and March-April are incredibly busy due to seasonal tire changes, expect to work really hard all day and stay a few hours late.

    "Good While It Lasted"

    Assistant Manager (Former Employee)
    Carson City, NV

ProsGood Money once you became an Assistant Manager
    Fast Paced
    Non-Commission
    Strong Values

ConsLong shifts that translated into low hourly wage once you turned salary
    Always worked Saturday
    Split days off

Advice to Senior ManagementBruce built this company with an attitude of taking care of customers. Don't let the bottom line become more important than how your employees interact with the people you meet in the parking lot, you will lose more customers and most of your dedicated employees.

    Could be better

    Apprentice Technician (Current Employee)
    Albuquerque, NM

ProsPay is ok for young kids in high school. Stores give service techs the least amount of hours possible, usually not enough to pay bills.

ConsNot enough hours scheduled. Stores limit the number of hours for all techs through out the week so the manager gets his bigger quarterly bonus from store profit. Techs are constantly told how to do their jobs by all managers even though many techs have been employed with the company longer than the managers. Big power struggled from uneducated managers.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet off your high horse you are not always right and stop talking down to techs. We are people to.

Great people, hard work, thoughtful compensation

    Service Coordinator (Former Employee)
    Lewis Center, OH

ProsGreat exercise, excellent camaraderie, internal promotion, bi-annual bonuses for all employees (part and full time).

ConsHard, hard, hard work. Exposure and physical difficulty.

Advice to Senior ManagementDon't be afraid to have a marketing department that spell-checks and proofs your print materials ;)
