Pros
Decent benefits; good location in terms of suburbs; beautiful campus
Cons
Long commute if you live in the city
Advice to Senior Management
none
Pros
lay back culture, average base salary , nice campus
Cons
bonus is pretty low comparing with other credit card companies
Advice to Senior Management
be more aggresive and increase the market share
Pros
1. Convinient location for suburbanites
2. 25 day vacation
3. Not bad benefits
Cons
1. Company is too "top heavy", there are more managers than individual contributors
2. Review system is unfair
3. Pay is low compared to competitors
4. The company tends to hire MBAs and even PHDs to do basic analytical functions. Very many disappointed people.
Advice to Senior Management
Try to be less vertical. Your biggest asset is your people. Young and talented are leaving and you are spending tons of money to recruit people who leave after a year because they are fed up with office politics.
Pros
nice office space, onsite gym, good location, that is it, nothing wlse that worth to be mentioned h
ere an awful place to work with
Cons
senior managers are liars, bad promotion system, office politics is incredible. some rude employees in the company. bad cafe onsite
Advice to Senior Management
show respect to your employees, get rid of those managers that have bad reputation.
promote team members as much as you can
Pros
Good work Life balance
Easy work culture. People respect each other
Veruy little bonus. Bonus not raelly tied to performance
Cons
Career growth is slow.
Salary is low compared to what is offerred at Capital One, HSBC
Advice to Senior Management
Have an incentive structure that will reward good performance.
Pros
There are great benefits and it is a great place to work for someone who is ambitious and is willing to play the corporate politics game.
Cons
The rating system for performance reviews is discouraging and unmotivating. Only a few get the proper recognition and the current performance system makes the majority fall into an average performer category while some are forced into the less than average performance category. It is a bell curve and there is a lot of pressure on management to rate this way.
Advice to Senior Management
Management must consider that everyone has value and that we do not all fit the same mold.
Pros
There are a lot of nice, hardworking people to work with and plenty of opportunities to move to different positions. You start with plenty of Paid Time Off (25). Overall the job isn't too stressful.
Cons
For the most part, Discover is usually several years behind in the technologies that are used. The hassle of getting new technologies approved, no matter how small they may seem, is quite involved. Employees are rated on a bell curve amongst their team mates. If you are on a hardworking and successful team then not everyone will be properly recognized.
Advice to Senior Management
Change the year end rating system to reflect what the individual has actually accomplished relative to their pay grade instead of using the current bell curve.
Pros
- 5 paid-time-off weeks per year
- Some managers are results oriented, so you can leave some days early when needed (e.g., doctor appointments)
- Acceptable level of visibility to Sr leadership
Cons
- Promotion opportunities are not great
- Compensation package is just ok
- Strong resistance to change
Advice to Senior Management
Recruit just the people needed. E.g, don't recruit MBAs if the company does not have positions to place them and take full advantage of their skills.
Pros
Really excellent benefits
Better work culture than most corporations
Fantastic campus
Excellent ability to move internally anywhere in the company
Cons
Very old school
Slow to adapt and change
Terribly risk averse
Not much accountability for business results
Advice to Senior Management
Be less risk averse. Take chances otherwise you will never become a leader. Get rid of incompetent leadership that shows no results. Improve technology as you are years behind many companies
Pros
Nice, well maintained facility. Flexible scheduling for work-life balance. Some usefull skills can be acquired on some jobs. Decent benefits package.
Cons
No morale and no concern by management about it. Work issues relating to co-workers DO NOT get resolved. There is little opportunity for advancement and it hinges mostly on cliques. The pay is below average. There is a clear divide between management and non-exempts (unless the manager is your best friend)
Advice to Senior Management
Alot of the managers lack people skills. If you lack people skills, you have no business being a manager. Place an emphasis on morale
