I have been working at Discover (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Work Life Balance is great at Discover. Good company to work for if you have children.

    Cons

The tenure at Discover for most folks is over 10 years which is a bad thing in my opinion. It is harder for people to adjust to change.

I worked at Discover full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Downtown location available for some employees. Good benefits package.

    Cons

Suburban location and mentality. Work-life balance for employees living in the city was non-existant, at least in my department.

    Pros

Great work life balance for anyone starting a new family. It is a 'lifestyle' job.

    Cons

Pace can be slow. If one is at all A type it will be slightly frustrating

I have been working at Discover (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Love the people and the benefits

    Cons

It's in the Chicago suburbs so the commute is long if you live in the city.

    Advice to Management

Keep listening to your employees and encourage them to work down town more often to retain top talent.

I worked at Discover full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Location is convenient if you live in Northern suburbs and don't want to commute to the city. Depending on your management there can be significant flexibility in your work arrangements.

    Cons

Everyone is running their own agenda and executives don't have a clue what is happening around them.

    Advice to Management

Live your values, don't just talk about them.

I have been working at Discover full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

All the benefits of a big company with some pockets of entrepreneurial spirits (if you know where to find them). Good life-work balance ... if in the right department.

    Cons

The company likes to think of itself as an innovator in the financial services / payments space but in reality it is more a fast (sometimes not so fast) follower. There are a lot of disparities in terms of work-life balance, management style and bonuses between departments.

    Advice to Management

Increase the pace of innovation and star taking other fintech startups seriously if you want to stay relevant and still have a role to play in the market in 5 years.

I have been working at Discover full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Corporate responsibility to environment, philonthropic, good benefits

    Cons

Difficulty making decisions, slow to promote, poor advancement from within, salaries not keeping pace with competitors

    Advice to Management

    Invest in current workforce.
