Pros
I enjoy working with my peers and the part-time employees I manage. I enjoy the chance to perform in front of people. I enjoy making our guest happy at our promotional events throughout the community.
Cons
I always find it amusing when management makes mention of "work-life-balance".
Radio Disney does not have a training program. Employees are expected to learn on their own as they go. They do not have any sort of STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE only rules that seem to be made up as they go along.
Promotions are given only to people living in Burbank, California. If you work in any of the other stations around the country your chances of achieving a new role within Radio Disney are slim to none. When I was brought on, my manager told me there where many opportunities within Radio Disney. I have come to realize that this is not the case.
I chose the company for a creative career, but all I am is an overworked paper-pusher. Creativity is shunned. Employee morale is very low at most of the stations. I don't think I have ever worked in a more dull environment in my life. It's almost shocking sometimes.
The equipment we use is embarrassing at best. Very poor standards with little respect for employee safety. It's just not what you think it would be like...it's just not "Disney".
This is an extremely poorly run part of the company.
Advice to Senior Management
I suggest you walk in my shoes for a month or so. Work the full work week (Monday-Friday)..then continue on into the weekend. As long as you haven't worked a full 8 hours on either of those days, upper management forces you to march right back to the office on Monday and do it all over again.
What's that? Your feeling worn out...You'll be fine.
What's that? You want feedback on your job performance? I don't know if we can..we'll have to check with H.R.
I think management should be ashamed of themselves for what they are asking of their employees.
If you are considering a full-time role with Radio Disney...don't waste your time or skill-set.
Pros
Being a Disney cast member looks great on any resume. You will have the ultimate customer service experience and fast pace ethic (in this store in particular). Great schedule flexibility.
Cons
More selling involved compared to Walt Disney World (they usually do not allow selling strategies). If you are expecting a full time position, do not expect it in the beginning. Word of advice: They will usually schedule you for 4-5 hour shifts. Over that, I personally would get a little tired of it so if you prefer this as a part-time, make sure your availability limits it to that.
Pros
Great work-life balance
You're working for a very creative company and the culture really encourages you to think outside of the box, tackle new challenges and pursue growth opportunities
The brand draws a very talented group of people, who are very passionate about what they are doing
You're working for Disney!
Despite being a very large company, Disney does a great job of creating a culture that feels like a small company. You can make a change without having to secure approval from a gazillion leadership teams.
Cons
There's no clear career path. It is up to you to plan your next move, not much guidance or resources available.
It is equally hard to move within the company as it is to get into the company.
Frequent restructuring in some business units.
Pros
You have GREAT benefits - health benefits are amazing!
You meet and make GREAT friends!
You have access to the Parks for free and can take 3 guests.
Cons
If you want to get ahead, you will need to put your personal life on hold.
Depending on your boss, you could have awful leadership.
Be prepared to play the corporate game.
