Pros
good for college grads, exposure to many systems, complicated architecture
Cons
Not family friendly, suck every bit out of you they can, whatever you allow, politics rule, mgmt not qualified and mostly just robotic and terrible, puppets to higher management, pay stinks to start, company takes advantage of lack of competition of IT (they rule Orlando) work to treat workers poorly, they do not give you choice of what projects you work on, will ruin your skills if you let them by sticking you in place they need someone, then won't let you out as they do not want to train someone else. Treat people over 50 horribly. Really alot of evil behind the scenes. Long-timers say company has gone continuously downhill in last 20 years as a good place to work.
Pros
Great reputation and worldwide brand recognition; lots of pride in making magic happen for guests and consumers. Among many long-time employees and cast members, strongly expressed desire to keep Walt's dream alive.
Cons
Be prepared to work long hours (not uncommon at many companies, but it's engrained in the culture here). Studios/film business is notoriously subject to not only the economy, but to whether the last few films are flops or hits. Lay-offs have abounded lately.
Advice to Senior Management
Beware of losing too much institutional knowledge to lay-offs and "brain drain." Make sure that the feeling of being Walt's company is not just part of employee orientation, but gets passed on to newcomers to the company, even if they have valuable experience and skills to bring in. Without that inner core, there is a danger of losing the company's identity: its soul, if you will.
Pros
Proud of Brand and quality of people employed there.
Cons
Very few promotional opportunities even for top performers. Little support from leadership to champion high performers for promotional opportunities.
Advice to Senior Management
Value your Cast Members
Pros
Brand reputation, experiencing some multi-million projects to build experience.
Cons
Politics involved can get overwhelming.
Pros
everyday is full of magical experiences
Cons
Some of the biggest down sides to working at the disney store come when it is time to fold tee shirts.
Advice to Senior Management
awesome management
Pros
Working for a powerful world wide brand is great for resume building and potentially career growth within the larger Walt Disney company.
Cons
The expectations of success vs. the opportunity for success with Radio Disney are unbalanced. Radio Disney is not a traditional radio station.
Pros
One of the most trusted brands, free park admission, commitment to excellence in creative/business areas. Tradition of providing a total experience in family entertainment.
Cons
Mediocre pay, diminishing benefits, expectation of long hours, eroding loyalty to short-term or long-term workers (layoffs cavalierly and capriciously handled).
Advice to Senior Management
Think of long-term harm of shedding institutional knowledge as opposed to short-term gain from outsourcing jobs & infrastructure. Take note of the adage: "it is more important to be good than to look good."
Pros
Fun atmosphere and reasonable pay.
Cons
Considerable standing and walking. Very political company. The atmosphere tends to lend itself to gossip and cross talk which takes away from the magical time the guests are supposed to be having. Promotion does tend to be according to who you know and not how qualified you are.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep the Disney spirt like Walt would have liked! Althought it is tough to keep a small and personal feeling, this huge company would do well to keep in mind the family spirit.
Pros
decent training, good perks, clean work enviornment
Cons
Pay is bad, promotions are done unfairly
Advice to Senior Management
I have my masters and lost out on a promotion to a high school graduate who had been working at disney longer.
Pros
Great benefits and a nice sense of history to the place. Overall, they promote a sense of community with the entire company. They hire the best people.
Cons
It's a very secretive place to work. The upper management doesn't communicate all that well with what is expected of them. Very aggressive environment.
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to those who are rank and file, as they know what is really going on. The cost-cutting in order to please the stockholders needs to stop. They are losing talented people every day and the atmosphere is tense and the morale is dropping.
