Pros
There is an endless amount of opportunity within The Walt Disney Company and all of it's lines of business. From Media Networks and the Studios to Parks and Resorts and Consumer Products, there are so many great people and great career paths to explore and pursue.
Cons
Working at a company as large and complex as Disney can be a little bit intimidating at times, but I think learning how all the parts of the company work together and impact each other is an amazing experience and completely invaluable.
Advice to Senior Management
The leadership at Disney do a wonderful job at providing their employees opportunities for growth and expansion within their current role, as well as around the company. This should continue to be emphasized to employees at every level.
Pros
Bright teams and try to deliver value through innovative software systems. The teams are lean and Agile is employed. There is complimentary beverages and tea and on Fridays they bring in bagels for everyone.
Cons
Difficult to get interviews when applying online. Sometimes the people from the business can be difficult to work with because they feel they have so much seniority to make any request they want anytime.
Advice to Senior Management
As a contractor I've even found it difficult to apply to positions through the Careers website. I know Disney prefers to bring aboard people who have previously worked there and made a positive influence. It would be nice to be able to reach out to HR recruiters directly and inquire about available positions.
Pros
If you have kids you are their hero working for the mouse given all the perks. Looks good on resume as well.
Cons
You never get to see your kids. Plan on minimum 11 hours days not including going to an from work which can be another few hours depending on where you live in Los Angeles.
Advice to Senior Management
This would be a waste of time. They are conducting a survey to attempt to get at some of this. In the end there are too many egos and nothing will get done except passing blame to various people.
Pros
Disney hires the best. Everyone is caring, ethical, and helpful. Benefits and perks are wonderful. Very proud to be part of the company.
Cons
Very little opportunity for promotion, especially with the economic situation. Disney is notorious for laying people off when they need to cut-back.
Pros
Worked here for about 1 year and meet some great people and also got some great experience. Recommended for those looking for industy experience
Cons
Occasionally you will find yourself with long hours, but this comes with any job that you do. Just one of the downsides of having a job
Advice to Senior Management
Would like to see more team building events and community engagement. Always looking to humanize the brand is great for us!
Pros
It is a great brand, instantly recognizable and a good reputation overall. It is enjoyable to work for a company whose products most people enjoy. In my area at least, I feel there is very good respect of work-life balance. I find the benefits good, and perks like free theme parks tickets are really nice. I have found almost everyone I have encountered across the company to be smart and reasonable. There are opportunities to get training in many subjects.
Cons
Everyone and their brother asks if you can get them free theme park tickets. There are major differences between the different segments of the company, and they often move in all different directions; communication is lacking and sometimes the left hand does not know what the right is up to. Getting things done often involve bad, nonexistent or hard-to-find processes and things take forever. Many business areas are very bad about promoting from within and providing paths for career advancement.
Advice to Senior Management
Better documentation and sharing is needed universally. Moving as much as possible to online, paperless systems would be a welcome investment and get a lot out of the dark ages. Communication from management/executives needs work. To retain talent, provide opportunities to advance.
Pros
Enjoyed almost all of it. Great work environment and great people. Good work/life balance most of the time.
Cons
Low pay for the industry.
Advice to Senior Management
More town hall meetings.
Pros
Great company to work for. excellent benefits
Cons
long hours. lots of internal politics
Advice to Senior Management
Loved working for this company
Pros
Opportunity for growth and development...international focus...wide range of occupations and areas of expertise...clear vision from management...good people.
Cons
Business runs 24/7, 365 days a year...at a certain level, advancement is dependent on contacts...loyalty and tenure do not factor into personnel decisions.
Advice to Senior Management
While the overall focus of the company seems on track, there could be more internal support for career movement between divisions.
Pros
The name brand, the office environment, and the team
Cons
Can be stressful when the game release is due.
Advice to Senior Management
More technical training and communications on the IT field would be helpful.
