Pros
- The Brand Name (known around the World)
- Free Admission into Disney Parks for you and your guests
- Plenty of job opportunities within the Company
Cons
- Some divisions do not promote from within, very hard to move up
- Salary/compensation is not competitive with other companies doing similar work at same level
Advice to Senior Management
Provide a better way for employees to understand career progression at Disney, and provide a better structure for employees to be promoted or rotated to other areas.
Pros
prestige, peers, creative atmosphere, network
Cons
bureaucratic, low pay, snobby people
Advice to Senior Management
need to take care of your employees!
Pros
Great boss, able to travel internationally. Team was great and very easy to work with, felt lucky to work in our Finance group. I enjoyed working in my group and seeing other departments that we worked with.
Cons
Very political. Heard other groups can be "sweatshops". Not much into promotions and compensation recognition. Too much red tape. Too many "heads" and everyone wants to have their say, but no one actually sticks their necks out.
Advice to Senior Management
Appreciate employees, Too many "heads" and everyone wants to have their say, but no one actually sticks their necks out.
Pros
Disney is a well known brand.
Cons
Senior Management very secretive and have strategy dictated to them by Corporate. Decisions are based off hierarchy and not analysis.
Advice to Senior Management
Manage with accountability. Embrace technology. Respect AND act on ideas of staff.
Pros
They hire some o the best in their field. The people are great. You don't have to spend a lot of time in a social situation explaining where you work.
You get a pass to Disneyland
Cons
The politics here are difficult. I truly wish one could find the right job in a company this size. Unfortunately you can get stuck in the wrong place. Ask for a good salary up front. It may take a while to get to where you want to be.
Advice to Senior Management
Pay attention to who is making the whole thing work. Adults need strokes too! The little things do count, recognition, awards, compensation.
Pros
It's Disney. The brand name "wow"s people.
The workplace is cute and you get invited to premiers, meet stars.
The projects are quite interesting.
Cons
Bad working hours. Overworked employees.
Low salaries and their is an obvious contempt for new/inexperienced workers.
IT not given it's fair share of recognition.
Advice to Senior Management
Care more about your back end employees and appreciate them. Closer correspondence between the "higher ups" and the lowly employees would help too.
Pros
You get good perks like free movie screenings, park tickets, etc. There's also a sense of pride working for Disney.
Cons
Low pay, very little vacation time relative to other companies, not a lot opportunity for career advancement.
Advice to Senior Management
In this economy, try to focus on increasing employee morale.
Pros
Very creative company that leverages and exploits its brand very well. Senior management does a good job to provide vision to employees and its investors.
Cons
Work / Life balance is challenging. 401K compensation is very weak and its vacation time is also below industry standards.
Advice to Senior Management
Senior management has its issues in terms of empathy for its employees, but that's life with any big company. The directive set by Bob Iger to expand internationally is a key driver to the company's future success.
Pros
Great benefits. Free pass to Disneyland. Being part of the magic of Disney.
Cons
No Work Life Balance in most areas. Too many politics. Too little headcount for the amount of work needed especially in the area of accounting and finance. Bonuses and raises are pretty much obsolete due to all the budget cuts.
Advice to Senior Management
Better communication between studio segments, better management, less politics.
Pros
Good money, good benefits, and the sense that you're actually making children happy
Cons
byzantine politics, constant reorganizations to clean up the mess of the last reorganization, lack of information
Advice to Senior Management
Making up your minds what you want will help your employees deliver it. Instead, they're left to guess what you'll say at the next meeting that will contradict what you said at the last one.
