Advice to Senior Management
None
Pros
No union. (one of the few departments that doesn't have a union)
Meeting people from all over the world.
Being the first to ride new attractions; see new shows.
Access into any Disney park.
The Insurance is fantastic!
Discounts, discounts, and more discounts. Especially after 3 yrs of service.
Being paid to make magic for children.
Making tons of friends.
Cons
Management plays favorites even though they say they don't.
If you do something wrong, management (at least in my dept) holds it over your head if you want to advance.
Some leads shouldn't be leads; they don't know how to manage; communicate with people.
The hours and holidays you have to work.
Small pay raises.
Lazy people that complain all the time; bad cast members that should be fired.
Bad guests that expect the world from you all because it's Disney!
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to your people that have been doing the job day in and day out. We know what works better then you do sometimes. Allow us to suggest better operating procedures and implement them; if after 3 months, they don't work, discontinue them.
Pros
Stable business with opportunity to turn full time relatively easily. The potential to move up in the company is almost limitless if you are willing to continually network with people and put forth true effort.
Cons
At times you feel slightly expendable because of the very strict policies and ease at which they can terminate you. However, as long as you follow the rules and understand that a company that large must maintain strict guidelines, you will find your place. It is what you make of it.
Advice to Senior Management
I think some of the management team may be under-qualified for the positions they hold. However, as you move higher up in the ranks they fit their roles much better. Again, being a company that large, it's hard to make sure everyone is used to their full potential. I would say Disney does a fairly decent job. Above average.
Pros
benefits of being able to visit the park for free. happy atmosphere, good training and really good management especially for students working.
Cons
don't expect to be promoted, it takes a long time for you to actually get promoted. Parking is horrible, you have to arrive 2 hours early because you have to take the tram from the parking lot to the park. then you have to go change into your costume.
Advice to Senior Management
work with the employees, give everyone a chance to be promoted. Let cast members eat the food, especially when there's left overs!
Pros
Wonderful place to work - Made some of the best friends that I still keep in touch with to this day.
Cons
The job requires a highly flexible schedule and the pay isn't all that great if that's what you really care about.
Advice to Senior Management
Management needs to improve in some departments as far as communication goes with their fellow employees. Communication is terrible there.
Pros
Union controlled wages and benefits. Great work environment and facilities. Lots of opportunities to grow and explore your talent(s).
Cons
Some co-workers have been around a long time and believe they are better and deserve more than new and usually equally talented cast members. Takes a while to get into the "grid" (the schedule that determines if you are full or part time).
Advice to Senior Management
Find out more about your cast member's talents and give them opportunities to grow in the company whether it is in their current department or not.
Pros
People are all nice, good instructions on job
Cons
Too many people, Smile everywhere
Advice to Senior Management
Focus on training
Pros
Good Benefits and Perks.
No other competition in the industry.
If you are a Disney-phile this is the place for you.
Cons
Advancement opportunties are non-existent. The prefer to hire from without rather than from within. Employee development and training just aren't there.
Advice to Senior Management
Invest in your employees...don't just count on someone to stay because it's Disney...nostalgia only goes so far.
Pros
Get to meet people from all over the world, it's the happiest place on Earth, lots of interactions with guests
Cons
There are not really any disadvantages of working at the Disneyland Parks and Resorts. Maybe, working hours can fluctuate, as in you can work as little as 4 hours or as much as 12 hours.
Advice to Senior Management
I thought the management team at the Disney Parks and Resorts treated Cast Members fairly. They will let you know if you are doing a good job or not, pretty much giving you a feedback when they have a chance.
Pros
-the priveledge of working with a legendary, world-class brand
-great, thorough training and intro to the company at Disney Univ.
-perks: free admission/parking, discounts, company sneak peaks
-when it comes to customer service, if you excel here, you'll do great everywhere else since Disneyland can be a very busy and stressful place to work
-friendly coworkers
Cons
-parking is inconvenient (the employee lot is in a separate location and a shuttle took me to the park)
-odd working hours (I constantly got the closing shifts the night before I had an opening shift)
Advice to Senior Management
I was lucky enough to have great mangers who were easy to get along with even though they ran a tight ship. The only problem I had was feeling like I had to jump through hoops just to get a little praise.
