I worked at Disney Parks & Resorts

    Pros

    Prestige
Beautiful offices at Team Disney; bad at Maingate
Free park admission for employees, not contractors
    Sharp people in IT

    Cons

Managers play politics with each other rather than leading.
Significant software is purchased, not developed in house.
Poor communication between software teams, caused by rivalries/.
Social divide between managers and workers.
Few new ideas. They are milking a cash cow.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Less politics would improve productivity.
Use the considerable talent you have rather than hiring expertise.
Cross train instead of hiring new people and contractors.

    Pros

Fun, something different everyday, every now and then you get free icecream

    Cons

Too hot working outside, security and managers try to get you in trouble over stupid petty things, the company doesn't notice extra effort, and payroll tries to F you as much as possible. Always count your hours

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop hiring opps people as management. The don't know logic or how to manage

I have been working at Disney Parks & Resorts

    Pros

Decent pay for area, great company name/brand, good benefits, the IT Department does do some decent team building, most processes are documented

    Cons

No room for advancement, jobs are given via the 'who you know' philosophy. Management keeps things very secret. You had better have on your pixie dust, management does not want to hear about obstacles or challenges. When something does fail somehow it is still communicated as a success--very dillusional within Business Technology

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

IT managers need to really believe the Disney modo in that diversity is valued. Truth is you have an appearance and conduct standard. It does not matter so much what your results are but everything matters as to how you got there

I have been working at Disney Parks & Resorts

    Pros

OK Benefits, Great Brand Recognition, ability to walk through park anytime to help de-stress. Flexible work schedule though they do have core hours.

    Cons

Sell you on all the opportunities, however, there is not as much potential to growth as they sell in certain departments. Was interested in open manager position and was told by senior management that they normally looked for manager's from different areas that would want to move before they would even look to promote. It is all politics. If you are liked they will move you without ever posting a job. Some departments don't even fill open positions from within, even if they have qualified candidates they go outside the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Practice what you preach. If you say that you look for qualified internal candidates make sure that all departments follow this process when filling open positions. This includes promoting Seniors to Managers, how do you know how this individual will do unless you give them a chance.

I worked at Disney Parks & Resorts

    Pros

Disney is a huge place so you really got to be luck to get good managers/position. As a college Intern I was lucky enough to land a good location and manager. I did housekeeping so it was really tough but my Manager was AWESOME. However, I heard a lot of horror stories from other college interns so don't be surprised.

    Cons

They provide extra classes to take down there. I thought they were poor quality. Unless my school was just that much better.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

This should be a learning experience not an opportunity to treat us as slaves.

Former Employee - College Program in Orlando, FL

I worked at Disney Parks & Resorts

    Pros

    -Amazing corporate culture.
-It's a very fun company to work for.
-The college program will give you some of the best experiences of your life.
-You'll learn a lot of relevant, useful information that you can take with you into any career and any job.
-You'll have the opportunity to become a full time, part time, or seasonal employee.

    Cons

-The pay is not the best.
-The college program has very strict rules and draconian punishments for breaking them. If you're into underage drinking and drug use, stay away at all costs.
-Several positions will have you working really odd/long hours during peak seasons. Be prepared for that.
-Some veteran employees might be resentful towards college program participants.

I have been working at Disney Parks & Resorts

    Pros

-meeting tons of people from all over the world on a daily basis and learning and interacting with adults and children
    - working as a team with tons of other cast members in the same area as you, has a family feel
    - there are tons of options to move between areas and try now new locations if you speak with the right people

    Cons

    - the management team in certain areas are not qualified for their job and are extremely unlikely to be very helpful, especially when you need help
    - a lot of the cast members are college program students which means they are very young and have no experienced a working environment before, work ethic is a little low for them
    - it is very hard to find any upward mobility within the company without investing tons of time into one position which you may be overqualified for, this can become extremely frustrating.
