Pros
-Free park access will make you a hit with friends and family
-Good discounts on merch
-People light up when you say you work for The Mouse
-While unbelievably unlikely, you could get a job at Pixar or Imagineering one day
Cons
-Low, low, low pay compared to other studios
-Huge variance in pay between divisions for the same work (DIMG pays interactive people 25%+ more for the same role at the Studio)
-Some of the worst managers I've ever worked around
-HR actively discourages employees from moving around the company
Advice to Senior Management
-Encourage cross-company movement
-Standardize pay across business units
-Level pay with other Studios you greedy bastards
Pros
Generally, the TWDC offer really good perks as it relates to shoppinga nd vacation discounts. It's nice to visit Disneyland and Disney World for free.
Cons
Rarely is there set directions. One really need to be flexible and open to changes to work here.
Advice to Senior Management
Offer an environment in which subordinates have clear roles and responsiblities. Sometimes changes happens so fast that those didn't get the update will feel left of the team.
Pros
Casual atmosphere, friendly employees. Long-term employees are proud to be a part of the organization. Benefits are good, and park passes are a big plus for families with children.
Cons
Very very political and dysfunction is wide spread, and sometimes encouraged even at the management level. Business units work in silos, and cross-collaboration is weak.
Advice to Senior Management
Don't hide your head in the sand - address and eliminate dysfunctional managers. They may have the ability to manage-up, but they are inept at coaching, mentoring their teams. I have seen too many talented people leave the organization due to poor management. It's a shame.
Pros
Fantastic place in the studio. Relaxed, good benefits including silver pass ("unlimited" access to Disneyland with guests), good brand name.
Cons
Nothing much against Disney itself. It's a great place. I however had the misfortune of working with a manager and only co-worker who were bullies and good friends. Didn't help that the requirements were vague whereas deadlines weren't.
Advice to Senior Management
Nothing really. I had the bad luck to work with two guys who were aggressive and good but they sometimes confused the problem with the people.
Pros
Training and developement
World class management
Good project
Cons
Political enviroment
constant fear of restructuring
Advice to Senior Management
Encourage true cooperation and collaboration
Pros
pros
friendly atmosphere
family oriented content
morale okay most of the time
can speak in acronyms after working here a few years
Cons
Cons
low pay
more responsibility with less pay
politics - lots of red tape
hush hush atmosphere at times
unclear communications
unclear job descriptions
Advice to Senior Management
good place to start a career, not much room for advancement of salary, good family friendly atmosphere, great benefits and perks
Pros
Strong brand
Well known products
Free DVDs/BDs when the market was good
Lots of young smart collegues
Strong openness to gay people (many sr management gay and open)
Cons
No work life balance
Promotions based on who you know, not what you know
Very hierarchical management system, lower level people not even allowed to meetings on your own titles you are responsible for
Lower than average pay
Few male workers, except for sr management
Sr management not in touch with day to day workload and responsibility put on managers and below
Layoffs every one and a halt to two years, like clockwork
Advice to Senior Management
Care about the people
Promote based on performance, not just personality
Support work/life balance
Pros
I worked at Disney a few summers ago and can honestly say that it was a fantastic internship. Some of the pros include: excellent pay, great learning experience, and future connections
Cons
It's hard to think of cons for the summer internship. The only thing that I can think of is that we had to attend lunch meetings and listen to people speak about other fields which didn't involve our department
Advice to Senior Management
The interns in related departments should interface more so that they have more of an understanding about how closely related departments work together
Pros
Prestige of the company can make your resume look good and good benefits and perks such as Silver Passes to its theme parks.
Cons
Salaries are inferior compared to other Forturn 100 companies; Management is not putting talented employees to the best use
Advice to Senior Management
They should give more opportunities to talented employees.
Pros
Great opportunity to work at a studio that's very thoughtful about how they finance their films and pay talent.
Cons
Not as much mobility within different groups at the Studio.
Advice to Senior Management
People in the current positions are very talented. Find a way to allow people to move around more within the studio to develop various skills.
