Former Employee - Clerical in New York, NY

I worked at District Council 37 full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The company offers great pay and health benefits for the employee and the empolyee's family members, including any children up to age 26. This is an old relic that still offers a pension plan! The location is perfect in lower Manhattan and just a short walk to the promenade on the West Side Highway.

    Cons

There are no flexible work schedules so if you hate the 9 to 5 you will hate this place. For starting a career its ok, but many employees have been there for 20 years plus and their negative attitude about everything can rub off. Most offices have no windows. Also, the clients were frequently difficult to work with making the job experience stressful.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management needs to upgrade the way they do things to make processes more efficient, but unfortunately they don't really seem open to new ideas. It would be great if younger talent could advance further and faster.

I worked at District Council 37

    Pros

Laid- back, nice to interns (but not employees), freedom, great coworkers

    Cons

Arrogant leadership style toward employees, condescending, no promotion unless your friends with the right person (regardless of incapability for job).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote the right employees and check leadership of each department because not everyone does the job right.
