Total Disregard for Human Beings Basic Life Needs and Responsibilities To Their Families

    Clerical Assistant (Former Employee)
    Washington, DC

ProsI was doing an excellent job as a clerical assistant with the District Government for over 20 years of service.

ConsMy job was taken away in one day in a Reduction-in-Force (RIF) and I have been unable to secure full time employment since that time.

Advice to Senior ManagementThey should care more about the quality of life of their employees and respect them as employees and not send them from employment to poverty without a second thought.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

    Employee Relations Specialist

    Human Resources Specialist (Current Employee)
    Washington, DC

ProsAligning employee relations strategies in an unionized agency that is ndergoing planned transformation is challenging; however the angst of change has been offset by improving the scope and delivery time of services to the agency's customers.

ConsDistrict of Columbia salaries for most professional, nonunion positions are 10% less than comparable federal jobs due to salary compression, and the awarding of colas to union employees only for over 6 years has created internal inequities that are not being addressed.

Advice to Senior ManagementMake the achievement of parity for both nonunion professional and managerial employees a priority to retain committed and knowledgeable staff.

Great legal experience, but the atmosphere is far too frenetic.

    Law Clerk (Former Employee)
    Washington, DC

ProsGives you great hands-on legal experience. You have the ability to interact closely with Judges. Being a clerk really hones your legal research and writing skills. A position here is well-regarded amongst DC employers

ConsThe Courthouse is overburdened, understaffed and underfunded. They are attempting to cut down their budget wherever they can, while the building is teeming with hundreds of people, and this creates a chaotic environment.

    OCTO

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Washington, DC

ProsIts an easy Paycheck with very little accountability. If you are in school or working on other goals.

ConsPoor leadership and communication. Favoritism and typical Govt employees protecting their jobs instead of doing their jobs.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet rid of contractors in roles over both employees and contractors.
Also just cause someone has been in a role for a long time, does not make them a good and productive employee or contractor.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
