Pros
The culture, when it first started was remarkable. There was a great vibe in the office and you constantly felt that you were being challenged and motivated.
Cons
After they went public, and Stage 6 launched, there was a massive series of mistakes that killed morale.
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to your employees.
Pros
Great company culture, cool product, interesting industry
Cons
Limited career growth path internally
Advice to Senior Management
Find a strategy and stick with it.
Pros
4 weeks paid vacation and 4 weeks fully paid maternity/paternity leave.
Cons
The salaries are very very low.
Advice to Senior Management
Someone take charge...there are 'too many cooks in the kitchen'. Someone needs to stand up and say this is how it will be and move on.
Pros
active culture encouraging employee interaction..many options for taking a break with fussbal table, xbox etc
Cons
lack of a solid career advancement program for employees
Advice to Senior Management
get intimate knowledge of your product, get to know your customer and consumer, deliver real solutions that matters
Pros
Location only 10 min from beach. People were nice, but most of the cool ones got laid off.
Cons
No flexibility, feels like High School. You have to ask for a hall pass to go anywhere..
Advice to Senior Management
You work mostly with professionals, not with kids. Give them opportunities to develop and enhance in their career.
Pros
Used to be the culture before the company went public and the CEO and co-founder Jordan Greenhall left - see TechCrunch for details. The vacation is good at 4 weeks for new employees and the benefits are good. Some remnants of the culture are still there like movie nights, video games and happy hours but the atmosphere is nothing like it used to be.
Cons
DivX doesn't pay their employees enough - some engineers do alright and obviously senior management are making away like bandits but the vast majority of the staff is underpaid compared against industry norms. The used to be able to get away with paying people less when they were private and stock options still meant something but not now that they're public and the stock price is unstable. Reviews are few and far between as are raises - a huge problem. Management tries to make it look like they involve the employees in decision making and keep them in the loop but that only keeps up as long as it's something trivial.
Advice to Senior Management
Get rid of your CFO and accounting departments and hire competent people. Middle / upper management need to involve engineers more and get decent product managers.
