Pros
Good people, pay and benefits are fine, flexible schedules and work arrangements, nice to work close to Manhattan, but not in it.
Cons
Growing quickly and cutting staff cannot go on into eternity, invest more in the right place for the furture
Pros
It was an okay experience within the time I was there and an okay experience overall. Gained some insight on the industry.
Cons
Some people weren't really friendly or approachable. People were only concerned about themselves. Not really a "team" environment at DIA.
Pros
Flexible, advanced offering for clients, great people, overall a great culture and forward thinking in their product lines for all types of clients.
Cons
Better pay for part time employees on call without benefits. Too many managers for all the different teams that often don't speak to each other.
Advice to Senior Management
Make managers responsible for getting feedback from employess and actually doing something with that feedback and providing feedback to upper managment instead of the attitude that its the employees issue to deal with bc they are too afraid to rock the boat. (not all managers are like this).
Pros
Fast paced environment, empowered employees, good collaboration among peers
Cons
Management provides little guidance or coaching and very limited career opportunities
Advice to Senior Management
Provide more coaching and carve out career paths for employees whether these involve promotions or lateral moves.
Pros
Management is easy to get along with. The variety of different positions within the company make it easy to gain plenty of experience. It is easy to apply and interview for a completely different position without rejection
Cons
The pay is horrendous. You will never leave middle class working at Diversified unless you become an executive. Any promotions are small increases in salary. Many people work second jobs. It is shocking how uncompetitive the pay is.
Pros
Excellent balance between work and social life balance. Time off is usually always granted given that you finish whatever work is due while you are gone. I enjoy working with the people on my team.
Cons
Each group is in a silo of their own with little interaction with each other. The actuarial team tends to think they are smarter and there for better than the other groups. Management tries to run the DB side like the DC, which doesn't work with the complexities of DB plans. There is little to no career growth opportunities. Rarely any praise but you hear if things go wrong. Management team aren't really people/hr type people, they can be cold and awkward. It also has a feeling that the employees are treated like children and not adults.
Advice to Senior Management
Look into management training for your managers on how to interact with employees. Personally recognize people for doing a good job, even if it is just an email to them saying nice work or thank you for staying late to get this done.
