    I have been working at Dixons Retail full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

    I like that this company is based out of London (albeit in Hemel Hempstead!). A real positive that this company is changing, and fast, all for the better. And now that we are 'back' after some difficult times, great to be the retailer that gets the exclusives and the product launches, so good fun if you like technology. Great new stores coming through and nice to work for senior management that genuinely care about a) customers and b) bringing colleagues from across the business closer together

    Cons

    Hemel Hempstead is great geographically but not chock full of entertainment in itself. Head office rather dated but that is being addressed

    Being part of a business that is totally Customer centric.
    Made immense changes to become stable in the Retail landscape.
    Great people to work with in a fast paced but friendly culture.
    Really passionate about what we do.

    Not much recent training and development available but this is changing now.

    Pros

    Excellent training, diligent team leaders, sufficient amount of breaks and good access to windows. Great opportunities of promotion.

    Cons

    Chances of getting moved around, i.e different teams or even different floors. There are days when calls are very few and the systems tend to fail to often resulting in long holds and transfers.

    You will work with some great people and have enjoyable days at work.

    Every good day has a bad day, some stores have prehistoric managers with similar management styles.

    Wages and benefits good/excellent once you get to mid level.
    Plenty of learning opportunities.

    Cons

    Low level employees undervalued and uniformly strictly monitored.
    Politics and poor numbers behind many decisions throughout.
    Archaic IT infrastructure, some the backbone is still AS400.

    Check numbers at every level, failings are being covered up and without good numbers you can't make the best decisions.

    - Very friendly working environment
    - Great pay
    - Company values expertise and provides training to achieve that
    - Never a same day
    - Very efficient and user friendly system
    - Absolutly fantastic store layouts and attention to detail is great so stores never look sloppy
    - Care plans are great value for money setting the trend away from shady insurance

    Note

    - Sales driven, but isn't all jobs?

    Cons

    - Minor customer dodging by certain employees to avoid bad figures
    - Managers tend to avoid difficult/ uhdesireable jobs and refer you to other managers
    - Selling and pleasing customers isn't enough unless you can get the extras

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    You are doing a great job! Great company, definetly doesn't deserve the flak the company gets about customer service

    Sales are important, a good sale even without care plans is still good. Taking a look at firms such as John Lewis really point out the way forwards.
