I worked at Dole Packaged Foods full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

This was a great work environment. There were amazing co-workers, and management. Free fruit and juice every morning, and free fresh cut vegetables every afternoon at 2:30! And an on site all healthy Dole Cafe!

    Cons

The Dole Cafe only served healthy food, with fish on the menu every single day, and I am deathly allergic to seafood, even the smell, so in 2 years I never got to eat there even once. That is eventually what did me in, I had too many attacks and HR decided it was a liability to employ me.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would say to make more accommodations for people with disabilities, like moving offices farther from Cafe, or letting them work from home, or anything else that would let a loyal long time exemplary employee keep their job. (Even though the compensation package was more than fair!)

I worked at Dole Packaged Foods full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Beautiful building and surroundings, in-house cafe with healthy affordable food.

    Cons

Extremely paranoid company, high turnover up to the executive ranks. CFO of the division I worked for was replaced 4 times in 6 years. Second in command was called relentlessly by headhunters. Relied very heavily on tons of printed reports that few people understood. High security because the power that be moved people in the growing areas around like chess pieces and some became very irate, one time in the past I was told one came down from Salinas with a gun looking to make trouble (that was in the early 1990s I heard). All in all a very unpleasant experience and I would never work there again.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

They wouldn't listen so I won't waste my time. I got out of there as soon as I could find a different job. Oh wait how about you treat your support staff like human beings with some modicum of respect?

    Pros

Great people and attentive to both employee and company support.

    Cons

Regret that I was caught in a down-sizing moment, which is to be expected every 5-10 years. No complaints.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I worked at Dole Packaged Foods full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

The Cafeteria is probably the only good thing going for this organization, and they are actually planning on doing away with it in their new corporate location.

    Cons

This antiquated Organization needs to clean house from the Directors above. They spend an inordinate amount of time engaged in covert meetings prior to an official meeting for political reasons, and less time adopting logical, progressive ideas and concepts. A great deal of time is also spent "finger pointing", versus getting the job done. And the Sales Strategy Dept.??? Don't get me started with that!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The Company needs fresh blood starting at the top! You cannot change the culture by bringing in smart and progressive middle managers/analyst. That caliber of individual will not stay! Finally, there is a definite need to restructure the compensation package. The juice needs to be worth the squeeze.

I worked at Dole Packaged Foods

    Pros

There is a small in house gym facility. You get 5 servings for vegetable & fruits every day. Fruits in the morning and vegetables in the afternoon. People are friendly and nice facility to work in. Beautiful waterfall area for break time.

    Cons

No training for employees, no career advancement opportunity. They just want to do what you do and stay where you are. No internal transfers or cross training. I worked there for 4 years but literally feel like I didn't learn much. Not a good place to start your entry level position.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You should think about why all of the new hires from college leave after a year or two later.
