    I worked at Dollar General

    Pros

While working at DG I found very little pros during my 7 months of employment. Yes they have paid holidays and you are eligible for paid holidays from your start date.

    Cons

The only holidays you don't actually work are Christmas and Thanksgiving. All other holidays you work and they let you take scheduled paid time off at a later date. The worst thing about working at DG Distribution Center is the work itself. It is very fast paced and involves heavy lifting as well as an unreasonable rate system which tracks how fast you are working. If you don't make rate they will fire you after so many "write ups," It is hard to describe in words, the stress this place puts on your body. The more you do the more work they pile on you, without regard to possible and frequent injuries of employees. By far the worst factory/ warehouse work I have ever done.

    I worked at Dollar General

    Pros

The only thing I liked about this job was the stocking of the merchandise.

    Cons

There is absolutely no communication between management. No chance for advancement no matter how loyal you are to the company. No training at all, you are just thrown into the position

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communicate with ALL EMPLOYEES, don't forget where you come from we all have to start from somewhere , TRAIN TRAIN TRAIN!!

I worked at Dollar General part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

I was able to get off time when needed.

    Cons

Once you are hired for minimum wage, the company continues to blame the employees for 70% of ALL loss in the store. You can not prove to them that you are an honest person no matter what. If you are not doing the stealing, they will tell you that "you must be letting everyone get away with it then by turning away from it." You are not allowed to stop shoplifters or even say anything to them (found out the hard way, got fired for saying something to a thief), yet you are held responsible for everything that walks out the door. This is the most backwards company that I have ever worked for. STAY AWAY!!!!! Upper management is too far out of touch with reality. They will never change!!!! They also do not compensate for working holidays unless you are full-time, and they make sure that very few achieve it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have an on-site loss prevention person if you are so worried about theft!!!! Let the honest employees continue to do a good job and stop blaming them for your poor management skills.

    Pros

Pay was okay. Pretty basic duties.

    Cons

The experience is completely based upon your boss. Literally. You can either learn a lot about managing a store or end up pulling freight all day.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep better tabs on the Store Managers.

I worked at Dollar General part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

It's a very easy going job. Not hard to get the hang of things. Friendly people I worked with had lots of nice customers.

    Cons

At the location I was at I was working part-time and was getting almost 10 hours a week. I don't know what was going on there so I left to find better opportunities.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to check and make sure employees are liking the job and asking about management because my management got away with a lot of stuff and was cutting our hours MAJOR!!!
