Pros
Great people
Fun place to work
Easy to learn
Cons
Pay Scale
Lack of music in store
Advice to Senior Management
Pay employees better for higher retention rates.
Pros
They are very, very nice people to work with, kind of like a nice family.
Cons
They don't pay me what I am worth. My day job makes twice what what they give me per hour.
Advice to Senior Management
I truly wish that Retail Managers would look at how many years a person has worked at a Retail store and hire them according to their experience, and not their budgets. Really look at the condition, the care and the quality of the core of the person and please consider if they are already working in a professional field in the city somewhere, and consider that you could be underpaying someone, thereby asking them to go elsewhere, looking for not only a good family, but a way to support their families and loved ones, and yes, even themselves!
Pros
opportunity for growth and professional advancement.
Cons
only minimal annual pay increases are given.
Pros
1. If the people are fun to work with, any place is great.
2. You don't bring your job home with you
3. Professional environment
Cons
1. Theft deterrent systems in place hamper productivity
2. Pay is abysmal...can not possibly live on it! Well, maybe if you have enough roommates...
Advice to Senior Management
Put in security cameras (fake or real) or raise the pay-scale to attract a different mentality. Better yet, reduce your CEO's pay to bring his compensation back in line with what is reasonable and necessary in this economy. Put a camera near the entrance of every bathroom (or put the bathrooms near the cashier line) and save some money!
Pros
No one takes things that serious, everyone is let and doesnt seem to mind.
Cons
EBT card/Food Stamp users as well as low income clientele. Parents let kids ruin store. Overall bad customers make the job very tedious. management is lackluster and pay is minimum wage with no raises.
Advice to Senior Management
Pay people more then minimum wage and stop accepting EBT/Food Stamp cards.
Pros
You don't have to wear a dress shirt and tie, just a green polo. No price checks, because everything is a dollar or less.
Cons
Impossible to keep a staple items in stock. You work a ton of hours for very little salary compensation. I put in over 100 hours two weeks in a row, because of an assistant manager being out sick. Not even my district manager could get other stores to help out with a manager to fill in. So that meant many days working 6:30am-10:30pm. And the "bonus" guidelines are set up so that they are nearly impossible to achieve.
Advice to Senior Management
You get what you pay for with employees. When you can only start associates out at minimum wage (even with experience), do you really expect outstanding productivity??
Pros
The Dollar Tree would be a good place to start out. (A first job)
Cons
They have little repsect for their employees
Managers start off making only about 50 cents more than their employees which is a slap in the face becuase we are responsible for every thing
Most employees can only expect 4-10 hours per week (or less)
They think all their employees are stealing from them and search your bags at night
The higher managment lacks communication skills and they do not treat their employees with respect
You can expect to get hardly any raises
Not much room for advancement
Advice to Senior Management
You need to start treating your employees with respect and pay them what they deserve. Especially the assistant manager who do most of the work!
Pros
You can gain at least a good year of sales experience.
Cons
There is little room for advancement and pay is slightly unfair.
Pros
Dollar tree can be a very exciting and fast paced company with great employees. Some of the managers are phenomenal and the work can be exciting.
Cons
The pay at dollar tree is horrible in comparison to the amount of work they expect you to do. At my location, I've had 4 managers and they all treated the employees with no respect.
Advice to Senior Management
Management needs to do a better job at treating employees with respect, raises need to be given on time, the pay needs to be higher unless you all reduce the amount of work that is supposed to be done.
Pros
umm hours are nice if you only want 9 hours a week for cashiers
no discount, but everything is only a buck
Cons
bad management
bad pay
bad hours
under staffed
customers always mess up stores, but it's way worse at a dollar store and of course you are expected to have every square inch perfectly clean every night.
Advice to Senior Management
treat employees better and maybe less employees and more hours for each one. and more than two employees would benefit the store more than you think.
