I worked at Dollar Tree full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Great fast pace environment. Diverse range of customers. Daily employee bonuses.

    Cons

Long hours when an employee calls in sick, or schedule conflicts.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It would be nice if employers could manage employee's work schedules better. Single moms shouldn't have to work late hours just because other employee's that are students request nights and evenings off. They're in school during the day, why cant they work evenings and nights? Seems only fair moms should be given the same options as well, especially since child care is not only expensive, but hard to find good childcare in the evenings and nights, and especially on short notice if they are called in to fill in for an employee (student) that couldn't make their shift. Just be more understanding of your employees, and there would be lot less scheduling conflict and issues. I feel this would also decrease the turn over rate at which employees are hired and fired/quit.

I worked at Dollar Tree full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Great starter job and thats it.

    Cons

Hours are crappy for associates and asst managers. I worked at dollar tree for a year, for the first 7 months I worked as a cashier, frozen food captin and clipstrip captin and than I applied to be an Assistant Manager and got the position. It was all good for a while but things started to take a turn for the worst. I was told I was going to be full time but was only working part time hours, the pay was okay but it wasn't much of an increase from an associate. My store manager was not the best after a while always complaining about things that was her responsibility. It's not hard to move up in this store and there is a really high turn over as well. Also some of the newer asst were qualified for things that i wasn't and i had been there longer and in the asst manager position longer.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Change your attitude and give a fair pay to everyone who deserves it.

    Pros

Decent pay if you have retail management experience. Cashiers don't make more than minimum wage.

    Cons

Long hours for store managers. Work nights & weekends. No time for family.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Bigger bonus. Store manager work their butts off. (Well at least most of us) very stressful during Xmas working mandatory 6 day work weeks.

    I worked at Dollar Tree

    Pros

Pay is good. Bonus opportunity. 15 percent discount on stock purchases. Always busy. Chance to show merchandising skills.

    Cons

    Hours
You work all the time. You have a ton of employees that work less than 15 hours a week so they are never available when you need them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More full time positions. Salary assistant managers so they can work more as needed. Each store needs 3.

    I worked at Dollar Tree

    Pros

The best thing was helping the customers. Second was the coworkers. Corporate was great to work with.

    Cons

Demanding job with no recognition, low pay, and incompetent manager and incompetent district manager. As full time assistant manager there weren't enough hours in the day to get things done.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Employee appreciation and higher wages. Raises that are more than 3% ....that's an insult.

    Cons

Poor pay, poor hours, poor corporate... big corporate small care for its employees

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been working at Dollar Tree full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Good pay if you are in mgmt./ good benefits. Good opportunity for growth. Upper mgmt. is very decent to store managers on store operations as long as you have a plan of action and your store makes good business sense.

    Cons

Sick pay is non existent even though you are given ample hrs, you can only take it 40 hrs at a time. Just like any other job it is cutthroat competition and can be petty between stores/mgmt..

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take care of your people first and foremost. they will take care of your customers. Minimum wage for hourly workers is not good enough. Even a little extra effort to show you appreciate them will earn you loyalty and the support you are looking for at all levels, not just your mgmt. team. Also monitor a little closer the wage gaps that do occur in your mgmt. teams and for what reason. Some cashier promoted mgrs. are making a whole lot more than tenured degree holding mgrs. because of personal relationships.
