Pros
Company is doing good business so if you can handle dirty politics & kiss management's ***, will get to keep the job.
Hires freshers ........
Cons
There was payroll freeze from 2008-2010 but managers & directors & V.P got salary raise.
Company treats everyone on case-to-case basis.
Management makes big promises but never keeps it.
Keeps changing the insurance every year making it costly & worst coverage.
Keeps firing employees on the floor but company does not mind spending thousands of dollars on managers travelling to/from USA/Canada/ Europe every week.
Whenever company fires people , they do not give long enough notice & just surprise on the Friday eve @ 5pm.
Advice to Senior Management
Have same policies for everyone & start treating everyone equally. Cut the senior management playing dirty politics & carrying their own personal agenda.
Pros
Work at home, regional management
Cons
Commission structure is horrible, lied to customers about distribution, company seemed to lack direction
Pros
A lot of the work environment is based off of your direct managers. They do allow the freedom for creativity and fostering ideas.
Cons
If you like working out, talking sports, and playing sports then this is the place for you. If you don't, be prepared to feel like an outsider. It varies from department to department but overwhelming this is true for a majority of the company.
Advice to Senior Management
Utilize and empower your successful employees instead of taking advantage of them to do more work with zero rewards.
Pros
Nice building, great views of the skyline. Very nice people to work with. Great company for those immediately graduating from college or looking to start their career.
Cons
Low Wages, revenue budgets are based on guesses, lack of marketing support, inside sales team always subordinate to outside reps, lack of clear, singular vision. No accountability. No opportunities for advancement beyond lower management. No career continuance program for those who have been in position for a few years. It appears as though those who helped build the Internet business have been slowly but systematically transitioned out (managers and employees).
Advice to Senior Management
n/a
Pros
few hours away from home working for a reputable company
Cons
no room for career advancement
Advice to Senior Management
good leadership overall
Pros
Worked my own hours but other than that there is not much to say. I left for a reason and it was not because they were treating their employees the right way!!!
Cons
Management is terrible lacking the business skills and ability. Leaders by intimidation of write ups and loss of employment. All the turn over should tell them something..... but why keep a seasond rep when you can pay someone less to do the same job. Promotion style is "Good ol Boy" mentality, but does not mean its the best fit for the position. I was there for 4 years and was a top producer although I made about as much money as the lower producers due to their screwed up commission structure. They reset your goals every year so you cant "break out" consecutive years. Too many broken promises in regards to pay, bonuses, and other things. They make you drive your own car.... pay your own gas... and dont expense you a single dime. Its a broken system!!!
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to the people who are actually doing the work and take care of their needs. Evaluate your management at the GM and RM level and hold them accountable. PAY your employees for use of their automobile, gas, and other items.
Pros
-Given the necessary tools to perform effectively and efficiently
-Excellent opportunities to make money
-Great Camaraderie among staff
-Positive feedback for a job well done
-Company matches 401k after 1 year
-2 weeks paid vacation in first year
-Many opportunities for growth within company
-Laidback but professional work environment
***Basically, we get out what we put in, which means if we work hard, we reap the rewards
Cons
-The things we sell sometimes do not perform as well as we would like, which is frustrating
-Occasionally employees who perform below par and have zero work ethic are permitted to continue working, which is frustrating when the team is relying on said individual
Advice to Senior Management
-Increase commission amounts
-Better healthcare plan
-Allow overtime
-Less micromanagement
-More opportunities to win contests, trips to motivate employees
-Follow-through on warning system and get rid of all dead-weight employees
Pros
Opportunity to transfer to different departments such as distribution, sales, management, print, internet, etc. Good work environment, opportunity to make a good living if you work for the right publication or department.
Cons
Distribution pay is low and is fading away due to everything going to internet. The company was always rumored to be bought out by another company changing its structure. Sales bonuses for reps was a bit small. Distribution managers where expected to do way too much for very little in return and sacrafice personal time as well.
Pros
Good benefits and free parking. Secure building. The building is centrally located in downtown Norfolk. Nice co-workers and good people.
Cons
Continuously shrinking businesses that are falling farther behind their competitors. Promotions given to those without experience or credentials. Serious morale issues within middle management, who see no way up.
Advice to Senior Management
It's not a fashion show. It's a business. Base promotions on merit and experience, not grand ideas that never pan out.
Pros
Some of the best reasons to work at Dominion would have to be the great compensation package, access to Senior level management and ongoing training via internet which is accessible anytime - day or night.
Cons
The compensation is lower than average and the opportunities for advancement are few and far between.
Advice to Senior Management
Look into better entry level compensations and more opportunities for advancement for individual positions so that, in the longrun, working with the company will be worthwhile.
