Dominion sells The Employment Guide Division

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsThey sold the division 6 months ago and closed the deal recently, but there has been no press regarding the sale.

ConsThey have gone from over 80 weekly Employment Guide publications to only 25 papers.

DE Is Not a Happy Place to Be!

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsGood benefits, Nice Office Building, Wonderful Co-Workers!

ConsHigh Turnover at Cycle Trader, Low Morale, Little Respect for Employees and Customers.

Advice to Senior ManagementWe have lost so many employees from the Cycle Trader division of DE the past few years, it is very sad to see. Maybe our managers need to stop telling other people how great our culture is, and actually start treating people better. Many teammates are afraid to speak up at our office, and the result is we keep losing good people!

No structure or true training process - Dysfunctional!

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

    ProsEasier going atmosphere - Don't micro-manage.

ConsNo true training or structure, electronic equipment is outdated, server of company is slow and systems are always crashing. Release new systems, products that do not perform.

Advice to Senior ManagementSpend money on training, updated equipment, computer systems, etc.

Former regoinal manager at Dominion Enterprises

    Regional Manager (Former Employee)

ProsGood benefits, reasonably fair expense policies, financially stable company, interesting work (at times), some travel regional involved

ConsUpper Management did NOT listen to middle management's suggestions. Customer problems with billing seemed to go on far too long without resolution. Lots of ego among managers at the corporate office.

Advice to Senior ManagementUpper management needs to address problems MUCH FASTER. Customers would be infuriated by the amount of foot dragging that went on constantly. I left by choice because it was not a healthy culture.

Good work ethic and hard work pays off.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Norfolk, VA

ProsI started from the ground up. I'm a fast learner, I've always been going above and beyond and always asking for more. Management recognized it and I moved up fast. They want to keep good employees that have a positive attitude. If you have that you will go far.

ConsCommunication between sites/departments can sometimes be difficult and like pulling teeth. One must be politically savvy and have patience.

Advice to Senior ManagementDoing a great job, and I've seen a lot of improvement, both in the company culture as well as performance. However... it seems easier for bad employees to transfer to a different department then get fired. To be on the receiving end, expecting a good employee but getting much less is quite disappointing.

    Misleading on all levels

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsI enjoyed working with some of the employees.

ConsSought me for an available position, sold me on responsibilities of position but after starting, was not given any of those responsibilities. I never would have left previous employer based on current job description.
Wish I read these reviews before accepting position.
For a technology company, their 5-6 years behind current technology.
Their latest and greatest product unveils and is 3 years behind market avg.
Many customers left because of lack of customer support and technology advancement.

Advice to Senior ManagementFind a direction.
Keep your promises to customers and employees.
Take hard look at where technology is today, your competition is way ahead.

Okay starter job, just get out quick

    Product Manager (Current Employee)
    Norfolk, VA

ProsIn all honesty, despite the numerous drawbacks, I think it would be an okay starter job. Get 2 years under your belt and then move to a real job.

ConsManagerial code of ethics is do what you think you can get away with. CEO Frank Batten just doesn't care. 90% of employees don't even know he is the CEO and couldn't recognize him. COO could care less as long as he makes his bonus. Management is only for the "good ol boys".

Advice to Senior ManagementNone... its blatantly obvious that they just don't care about the long term prospects for the company.
