Hire the contractors and promote growth opportunity within the company.
Pros
Good benefits
Good place to work for some one who doesn't have any aspirations to grow
Cons
There is no established criteria for promotions.
Roles are not clearly defined - Employees with same titles do different things in different IT projects
There is a lot of talk on Diversity but, you hardly find any minorities in higher paying jobs.
Innovation is not encouraged in IT. No one is sent for any kind of training.
Performance Development Plans are a joke.
Advice to Senior Management
Let HR play active role in employees' career growth. Upper management shouldn't be sitting in Ivory towers. Make it mandatory for them to mingle with employees on a regular basis. Allow decisions to be made from bottom up.
Pros
Dominion is a solid job for someone who wants to live in Richmond, Va.
Cons
Dominion uses the good quality of life in Richmond, va to pay less than the market. There are also very limited opportunities for advancement.
Advice to Senior Management
Do not just sell assets. try growing a business that is making money.
Pros
Good company. They are trying to keep good young employees.
Cons
Depending on who you work for the expectation is that you wont dare to leave if your older and cater to the young person threatening to leave.
Advice to Senior Management
Know and respect your employees. The more you repsect your employee, the harder they work for you.
Pros
Good pay, benefits, and experience.
Cons
Dominion is unethical with its regard to energy resources and how they are obtained. Dominion leaves a lot to be desired with regard to progressive employee practices. Diversity, safety, and work/life balance are given nods but leave a lot to be desired.
Advice to Senior Management
Don't just talk the talk, walk the walk.
Pros
$, benifits, freedom to do as you please, free trips to vendors, ability to design cool stuff, get outdoors, not micromanaged
Cons
too many chiefs and not enough indians. everybody wants to be your boss or tell you how TH
EY did something.
Advice to Senior Management
Try impressing the little people too. Thier really the ones who will make or break your reputation. not your director's opinion.
Pros
Extremely accepting when you begin your employment. Everyone is willing to help and teach you necessary information for personal growth and growth in career. Good mentors as well.
Cons
You do a little bit of everything. There isnt one exact job you are assigned to, however that helps you learn to multitask.
Advice to Senior Management
Try to get better computer software to help efficiency of company
Pros
Field checking projects is nice- i.e. not tied down to your desk all day
Annual Incentive Plan is a nice yearly bonus
Good work/life balance. Everyone works 40 hours and thats it.
Cons
Where to start....
It's a great place to work if you don't have a 4-year degree. The majority of the work force are the "good ol' boys" and very very few female workers. Given that, there is absolutely no diversity, and the company is not open minded. Because of the educational gap the workforce can seem very boring and challenging to work with to a college graduate.
Advice to Senior Management
Spend a week doing my job.
Pros
Ethical behavior is modelled
good people, good benefits, opportunities to move to other areas of company. focused on diversity, good financial performance,
Cons
If you're older, may get locked in to present position, and other departments are less responsive to attempt to change jobs.
Advice to Senior Management
have tried to increase diversity in leadership.
Generally management is worker friendly. This is demonstrated by generally fairly low turnover and people working past retirement age.
