Server at Don Pablo's

Server (Former Employee)
Baltimore, MD

I worked at Don Pablo's part-time for more than a year

ProsGeneral Manager is fair and easy to speak with, however the supervising managers often struggle to find a balance between authoritarian and friend

ConsThe white marsh location often attracts teenagers due to the movie theater being on the avenue so tips can suffer.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend

Long hours little reward

Service Manager (Current Employee)
Sarasota, FL

I have been working at Don Pablo's full-time for more than a year

ProsStaff was fantastic. Food was okay but not stellar. Enjoyed the customers in the area.

ConsDealing with corporate was a mess. Had our review scored 70 and questioned it and was told nobody ever scores over 70. Fought and got it up to 80 but was never given our bonus that was based on that review.

Fun but Tiresome

Server/Bartender (Current Employee)

I have been working at Don Pablo's part-time for more than 3 years

ProsTeamwork atmosphere, fun enviroment, not boring.

ConsHigh physical demand for a restuarant, low check averages = have to wait on more tables to make money.

Moved up from busser to now being a server

Server (Current Employee)
Sanford, FL

I have been working at Don Pablo's part-time for less than a year

ProsNot a bad company overall and I was able to move up from being a busser to being a server rather quickly(and I wasn't the only one). Very flexible schedule and I've made plenty of great friends here.

ConsThe average check is not that high so the tips could use some improvement. The management can be questionable at times and I've found myself expo-ing all of my food and getting weeded while a manager could have been helping me. It can get VERY slow as times as well.

Advice to Senior ManagementImplement a better plan to help the employees when there is no expo on or tortilla makers, etc.

Understaffed and Overworked

Server (Former Employee)
Manassas, VA

I worked at Don Pablo's part-time for more than a year

ProsThe ability to have large sections (due to understaffing) would sometimes pay off with larger tips at the end of the night.

ConsConsistently understaffed on shifts to avoid paying more servers, busers, hosts, etc. So the ones who were scheduled were forced to work larger sections and longer hours. This usually resulted in strain on the servers and loss of quality in the service.

It was just like any other restaurant really; your opportunity to make money and move up are up to you.

Bartender (Former Employee)
Knoxville, TN

I worked at Don Pablo's

Prosshort shifts, nice caring management for the most part, comfortable uniforms, safe location, fun co-workers, fast and friendly kitchen staff,

Conscorporate figures are snobby and disrespectful to the employees who are 'beneath them' (the ones who make their paychecks for them). they are impersonal and only care about their money, not the employees or management

Advice to Senior Managementto management, be careful b/c the corporate leaders are 'clique-ish'. you could be the best manager in the world, and go above your expectations. but if corporate doesnt like you for a personal reason or has a good buddy looking for a job, watch out. they will FIND a reason to get rid of you.

Management

Assistant Manager (Former Employee)
Akron, OH

I worked at Don Pablo's

ProsPay better than expected for industry. They do try to give you 1 weekend off per month when possible. The staff is comprised of pretty good people.

ConsCorporate communication from HQ to operations level is not consistent. Quite frequent changes in procedures are made without thinking the consequences through, causing either more changes, or reversion back to original heading. High dollar staff (HOH) has to be run so tight, that corners are cut and staff is overworked.

Advice to Senior ManagementYes, change is good. But change just for the sake of changing can be detrimental. Have plans thought through, not only by senior management, but by those in the trenches. If line management can take ownership and buy into the vision and direction taken, then it will be easier for all to follow.
