Do As I Say, Not As I Do

Finance (Current Employee) Downers Grove, IL

ProsDiverse businesses; lots of upward mobility...but only if you are listed as a "high potential"; successful recent results

ConsEthical gaps make the "Dover Values" not worth the plastic cards the words are printed on; Hugely political organization, especially at its Downers Grove headquarters; corporate leaders are asserting more control over operating companies, although in many cases they lack enough knowledge of businesses to not hurt results; limited regard for employees who they treat as disposable assets; limited upward mobility for those not on the high potential list...and heaven forbid if you're older and lack enough "runway" -- then you're done.

Advice to Senior ManagementDon't forget who produce the large profits you are reporting -- and it's not those who sit on the thrones in Downers Grove.

Sustaining Engineering Manager (Current Employee) Cincinnati, OH

    ProsExciting, challenging filled with opportunities.

ConsWould like to see more opportunities to move between operating company's inside of Dover at a lower level than senior management. Current structures only gives these opportunities to the most senior managers.

Advice to Senior ManagementNeed to be more open to employee ideas and development within the organization

    Horrible culture. Stay away.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Downers Grove, IL

ProsBase compensation tends to be above market. Great business development group. Constantly changing environment. Company is a consistent performer in the industry.

ConsNo development unless you are "on the list". No work life balance. No respect for people or their time. Punitive culture; through the year, they keep a list of reasons to lower your rating and your incentive comp with no opportunity to improve.

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement needs to show some respect for others.

Fantastic CEO as well as Segment Leadership with a majority of the rest falling FAR short

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

    Pros- Diversified products and markets
    - Company "shares the wealth" when targets exceeded
    - In general, companies are able to operate autonomously

Cons- A majority of the corporate functions don't measure up to the expectations for a company of its size
    - Some "Leadership" need to embrace higher ethical standards
    - Diversity is an issue
    - International, but still ethnocentric in a great many ways
    - HR Leadership

Advice to Senior ManagementTitle says it all

    A sink or swim environment

Director of Finance (Former Employee) New York, NY

ProsA wide range of projects, constantly changing, and a wealth of learning... You can take on as much as you are willing to be challenged.

ConsLack of mentors and no succession planning in place except for the operations side in producing and running operations.

Advice to Senior ManagementBetter mentoring needed with more even reviews. All head office departments need a fresh review.
