    Pros

Good benefits, some good.people, knowledgeable staff, good clients.

    Cons

Management is temperamental, you won't know when you will get called out on performance, too many things going on for one person, they expect you to perform beyond your job role and not pay anything more.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep the employees happy.

I have been working at Dovetail full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Flexible work hours, Working from home.

    Cons

No team culture, everybody works mostly as if an individual contributor.
No appreciation of good work no feed back of any kind. No real performance reviews.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create units of small teams, involve technical people to drive projects instead of pure managers who don't know and don't care what any of the tasks are and how they relate to each other.

    Pros

Some good technical and functional people to work with.
    Work flexibility.
    Learn about Payments Processing.

    Cons

The company values and culture are on a decline.

Favoritism is the everything now. If you are a favorite of someone in the middle management, you will get all the attention and promotion, no matter if you are deserving or not. A lot of deserving, talented and knowledgeable people are being sidelined as the middle management has ego's and is busy in impressing the higher ups rather than focusing on the people that they are responsible for. This is creating bad cultural vibes in the company. The middle management responsible for development is inefficient, has no managerial skills nor any people skills.

The middle management doesn’t stick to its words. Say one thing and do another and many a times don’t do anything.

Good work is not appreciated, what counts is how much visible you are in front of the middle management. No feedback is given when good quality work is done, no appreciation is shown for the work done. When things go wrong, everything is focussed on finding a target.

Yearly reviews not done in time, sometimes not done et all. No goal setting done for employees, they are just tossed from one thing to another. HR and senior management is mute on this and does not takes any actions. Process is for the namesake.

Employee satisfaction is low because of no interaction from the middle management, which is affecting the quality of the work and also culture of the company. The middle management just ignores the employees.

Ideas are being ignored and advises are not followed. Only a select few are asked and things are done from their point of view rather than involving the whole team.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The most important thing is Employee Satisfaction. The senior management should come out and talk to employees about work, culture, middle management. Employees should be more involved.

The review process should be 360 degrees. Feedback should be taken for the management and things should be more visible. A bad manager can make work-life hell and this is happening in development right now, Correct it.

Focus should be on employees growth(which is hardly the case). How can they work better with a inefficient middle management. There is a lot of potential in employees, don't let it go waste.

I worked at Dovetail (less than an year)

    Pros

    work fliexibility, good domain experince

    Cons

middle managment is bad, employess treated just like resources, lip service counts, no planning, bad internal communication, product is messy, egos in middle management, employess are dissatisfied,

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

remove too much middle managment, listen to employees who add value. give attention and encouragement to employees who know and contribute not just who just talk, plan for employees growth.
higher management should listen to employees rather than middle managment who paints some other picture
    give people recognition deserved

I have been working at Dovetail full-time

    Pros

Seems like every bank wants our system.
Extremely busy, extremely in demand - which is a good problem.
No egos, no jerks - everyone is easy to deal with.
    Complex, challenging problems.

    Cons

    Too busy.
Everyone seems to be working on something else. You cannot team with people you need to work with. No one is coordinating schedules between different groups like development and business analysts.
Client managers for different customers scheduling things all at the same time. Unclear what takes priority. They do not understand we cannot do all these different things in the same time!
Quality is suffering. This is known, this is discussed, but not much action taken.
Much of the system still is a secret only known to the more senior people.
Existing code not well separated. Hard to add new features without breaking other ones.
Testing framework is too fragile and unreliable.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Slow the growth to a more sustainable pace.
Allocate time in improving the quality of the existing code base and modifying its structure to be more maintainable.
Have more transparency with the less pleasant parts of company operations - when people decide to leave or have to be let go. Some past occurrences have been interpreted as cover-ups leading to distrust.
    Disseminate knowledge to newer hires.

I have been working at Dovetail full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Payments processing is complex and challenging, making for fascinating subject matter. There are some fine people on the staff. Many bright people with good ideas and extensive backgrounds.

    Cons

There is much lip service given to valuing employees but no demonstrable sincerity. Management shows little to no consideration of employee skills, interests, expertise or knowledge. One set of standards exists for the elite few, while the rest of the people are treated with disparagement.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen, and treat people like adults. Engage in teamwork, which you name as a value, but do not practice.

I have been working at Dovetail full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Dovetail is in the right sector at the right time. Payments are hot and the management and investor know it and are in for the long haul and the competition is snoozing. It's Dovetail's market to lose. Attracting great talent from internet companies so great place to learn

    Cons

Busy and some growing pains. Processes and culture are evolving some frustration at lack of clarity.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Some key executives need to let go and develop a good second tier of management / knowledge. You can't do everything. That said, thanks for making this a cool place to work and given the wider economy growing as fast and as profitable as we are is amazing!
