    Pros

Great people to work with. Safety is always first. Great benefits. You have the ability to move into a salary role so great advancement. Tuition reimbursement.

    Cons

Top out pay is about 3-5 dollars lower than competitor pay. But still a good living. Top out at 34.50 and 36.50 as board operator.
Distribution operators start 18.50 top at 24.65 unless you get a tier 4 spot it's at 27.65. No vision plan

    Advice to Management

Give the distribution operators a chance to move to process operations. Show them loyalty as they showed you loyalty by staying with the company. You give a kid a job out of process technology school because they showed the commitment to finish the school. How about rewarding the distribution operator with that job cause they showed you commitment and loyalty. They could have put dow on the resume and got another job. So wake up!! You spend a lot of money on training this individual the other company that hires them laughs at you for spending all that money on training that individual for them.

    Pros

Good place to really expand your technical skills. Plenty of opportunity to transfer to other areas and sites. Having experience at Dow on your resume carries a lot of weight.

    Cons

There seems to be a very rigid class system. If you aren't in management, then you are reminded on a very frequent basis that you are replaceable. Layoffs are used as a threat to keep blue shirts in line. The safety programs tend to focus more on individual workers while larger safety issues are ignored if it costs a lot of money to remedy.

    Advice to Management

As Dow employees get laid off and contractors are hired to replace them, the quality and safety of your plants goes down. A lot of very valuable knowledge was has been walked out the gate to save a few bucks in the short term.

    Pros

TS&D is a great department because of the range of opportunities available. The people are really smart (PhDs from across the country) and the work-life balance is great.

    Cons

Locations. Even for an engineering company, their locations are still out of the way.

    Pros

Great place to gain experience....the people I worked with were great. Starting salary is great if you are an inexperienced person straight out of college.

    Cons

The salary is not so great if you are making a career change. I took a pay cut to work here, and it will be at least 3 years to make what I was making before....with that said, this company has one thing my last one didn't.....job security...

    Advice to Management

I know that management can't do much as far as pay goes..but they can relay the information. Beware Dow, if you can't offer competitive pay then rest assured your people will leave for higher wages, so please, your a great place to work just need to pay more.

    Pros

Compensation is competitive compared to other chemical companies, benefits are quite good, and work-life balance is very good. Workplace culture is competitive but not cut-throat, and most everyone is helpful and good to work with.

Lots of resources are available for R&D work and there are plenty of experts around should you need to leverage expertise in your projects. Good support for IP fillings should you have patentable technologies come out of your research.

Safety protocols are first in class.

    Cons

Like other big companies, there is a process for everything, and it can be burdensome at times.

Safety protocols are excellent at Dow, but at times can make progress quite difficult for lab researchers.

Too much emphasis on growing project management and other soft skills, not enough emphasis on growing technical expertise.

    Advice to Management

Cost cutting efforts are good for improving the bottom-line temporarily, but not when it comes at the expense of top-line growth.

    Pros

Dow is very people oriented, provides great training opportunities. I love how there is always work to be done, I feel like I can add a valuable contribution every day. Pay is very good for ME's. There is a lot of growth potential in the company. Dow has very good ethics, puts safety first.

    Cons

Seems like a lot of work is spread over not enough people some times. Some of the management systems that are used can be counterproductive/reduce efficiency.

    Advice to Management

Focus more on rewarding people on the work that they do, especially on the lower/middle levels (i.e. plant operations staff)

    Pros

Very Technical environment with a lot of experts in various fields of disciplines. Good learning Platform for new hires who want to become competent in any given role.

    Cons

Too structured, managers are focused on their on ascension and focus less on employee growth. Pay is below average for a big company.

    Advice to Management

Focus on a less structured hierarchical environment and focus on building networks. Also allow flexibility for employees to grow
