Great place to launch a career

Commercial (Current Employee)
Houston, TX

I have been working at Dow Chemical full-time for more than 5 years

ProsGreat work/life balance and alot of autonomy over your roles at an early age. If you give good reason for the company to trust you and your judgement, you can really take your career where ever you'd like it.

ConsNot much focus on HR's involvement with employees, succession planning and since Dow isn't integrated with oil, it's not as profitable as other Houston based petrochem companies thus, salaries seem to be lower.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep focusing on your people, especially to the highly volatile and attractive Houston market.

Layoffs are common

Reliability Engineer (Current Employee)
Houston, TX

I have been working at Dow Chemical full-time for more than 8 years

ProsDow does offer training. They also let you apply for different jobs wants you are employed at the company. I also love the 9-80 schedule

ConsLayoffs are common, this isn't a company you can work 20+ years any retire.
Raises are very small. Dow starts you off at a decent salary but you will receive very small raises
Very political, your co-workers will throw you under the bus if they think it will help them get promoted quicker
Company mission statement changes every three years
Employee morale very low

Advice to Senior ManagementStop laying off workers. Stop selling all the businesses.

Definitely not a good company to work for

Engineering (Current Employee)
Houston, TX

I have been working at Dow Chemical full-time for more than 5 years

ProsThere are some great people working there, but a lot of talented and skillful people have recently left the company or are thinking about leaving as well

ConsVery short term mindset of senior management; Company is on the wrong track; Lower pay and secondary benefits than comparable companies in the area; Distrustful

Advice to Senior ManagementTry to have some genuine interest in people, not only to advance your career or fill your own pockets
