I worked at DreamWorks as an intern

    Pros

Lots of perks. Great senior management. Free breakfast and lunch with special summer Fridays events/meals.

    Cons

As with many great corporations, the turnover is minimal therefore the job growth has fewer opportunities. Which just goes to show that if given the opportunity, you should jump at a chance to work here.

I have been working at DreamWorks

    Pros

the people, the campus, the content

    Cons

work like balance can suffer, it can be very political now that the company has grown

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

We must find better more original stories to create at lower costs

Not quite the company it used to be.

    I worked at DreamWorks

    Pros

Most people you work with are good hard-workers; good benefits are provided; they provide a comfortable work environment with some nice perks.

    Cons

They try to recognize loyal employees, but recent changes in the past few years have made it difficult for them to keep them employed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look for ways to overcome the need to down-size.

Former Employee - Lighting in Redwood City, CA

I worked at DreamWorks full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Free breakfast/lunch, free gym, lots of "gap time" or unpaid time off in between projects

    Cons

lots of "gap time" or unpaid time off in between projects
No one leaves, so there are lots of stagnant positions/departments
Upper management is full of people who have been there a long time, but are not good at what they do
Artistic direction is the same for every movie, way blown out lighting
NO ONE CARES ABOUT THE STORY, the unsaid motto is "I hope this movie makes enough money so I don't get laid off in 6 months"
They are so scared to make anything original, that they constantly try to buy other properties and then bastardize them into family story

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get some solid story development, it's so sad to see so many talented people work on such bottom of the barrel stories. A snail race car movie? come on people! How to train your dragon is the only quality franchise.

I worked at DreamWorks as a contractor for more than a year

    Pros

The culture is amazing and the perks are out of this world - free breakfast and free lunch, movie nights - amazing corporate culture.

    Cons

It's a big company - but that isn't a con truly - however sometimes all the pieces aren't all working as harmoniously as they could when companies are big - but once again - it's the price paid for doing well.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up the amazing environment and don't forget to continue to reward your top-notch employees.

    I worked at DreamWorks

    Pros

Fantastic team, great, positive attitudes. Movies keep getting better. Overall a great place to be.

    Cons

The proprietary animation software is painfully antiquated and the old guard will not or cannot see it. Pay is terrible.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Having half the team on OT and half with nothing to do is not an effective business tactic, regardless of how the internal numbers look to the boss. The math is bad.
Forced marches aren't necessary, but rather the result of bad planning, unbridled changes and patterned behavior.
