New Equipment is a corrupt organization!

New Equipment (Former Employee)
Houston, TX

I worked at Dresser-Rand full-time for more than 5 years

ProsYou will meet some of the best people you will ever work with, and make life long friendships with some people.

ConsManagement and HR are terrible; there is no loyalty or appreciation in this organization! They are incapable of running a great team that has so much potential.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake a look at your management team, specifically the newly promoted VPs. There is a reason there is a high turnover rate and so many people will leave to competitors.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

From settled mid-career contentment to career-ending chaos.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Olean, NY

I have been working at Dresser-Rand full-time for more than a year

ProsFine for entry level experience, but evaluate your choices carefully
Vacation Buy
401k employer contributions are generous

ConsAutocratic, dated management style with none of the good of paternalism

No incentive plan for employees below management level

Work-life balance blatantly different by department and even within departments- highly paid people leaving at 4:PM every day when lower-paid exempt staff stay on many hours later

No non-vacation leave policy

Immediate management is very self-serving, in GFSS run by dictator

Advice to Senior ManagementCreate fair compensation plans for everyone, not just management
Stop favoritism and executive self-entitlement particularly at corporate level

Human Resources Manager (Current Employee)

Advice to Senior ManagementGet rid of the good old boys mindset and restructure the organization. The company has the potential but suck and lacking quality leadership.

Everyone Wishes They had Another Company to go Work For

Services (Current Employee)
Houston, TX

I have been working at Dresser-Rand full-time for more than 5 years

ProsMiddle management really tries to get everything accomplished. Lots of young guns getting the job done as well as old timers willing to help the next generation.

ConsCompensation is pretty bad with 3% raises. Anyone below a directors level is expected to work long hours while working below industry average. People get promoted to jobs they are not capable of doing but because of the "good ole boy network" or "buddy system" HR is a joke, they play the political game instead of being impartial. If you do your job but they don't like you, you are gone. Company wide poor communication between: new equipment, factories & services

Advice to Senior ManagementGet rid of Volpe & Luciano!!! Time for a new regime!!!

No real engineering since it has all been done before.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at Dresser-Rand

ProsLots of opportunity to learn. You get hands on experience in your field. Being around 20+ ton turbines is very cool. They pay a housing stipend. They respect their interns and give them meaningful jobs.

ConsIt is in the middle of nowhere. The people that work there are very closed minded. The equipment is out dated. The building is falling apart. it rains A LOT. The area floods a lot. There is no fun place to go. the housing is terrible. The closest "city" is 45 minutes away (Olean) if you can call it a city.

Summer Engineering Internship

Summer Engineering Intern (Former Employee)
Olean, NY

I worked at Dresser-Rand as an intern for less than a year

ProsI was given a lot of responsibility and received very encouraging feed back. Everyone was willing to help and answer questions. Rather substantial hourly rate compared to many other internships.

ConsI would have appreciated the opportunity to meet successful women in the company to hear their challenges in such a male dominated industry. Other than that I couldn't have asked for a better experience.

Good name on outside, Terrible work environment

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Houston, TX

I have been working at Dresser-Rand for more than a year

ProsOnly few people willing to truly help you get adjusted.

ConsVery political atmosphere. If you are on top of your game, watch out, others see it as a threat....watch your back here.

Advice to Senior ManagementHire people that are qualified for the positions not those who are threatened by those who do.
