    Great work environment

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Houston, TX

ProsGreat relationship between top management and employees

ConsOpportunity for growth is not always readily available within the company

Advice to Senior ManagementDon't treat only the top management very well. Ensure that all employees are given the best compensation and recognition for their efforts. Otherwise, most of your young talents would move to other Companies that are willing to provide a more competitive pay package.

    Where do I start?

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Houston, TX

    ProsFair Pay and Benefits
    Exciting Industry
Opportunity to meet interesting people from all over the world

ConsNo work/life balance....perfect for someone with no personal life...these people work 24/7 and expect everyone to do the same.
    Training available is a joke.
Communication between Management and "Workers"...a joke as well.
No integrity, no trust, no respect....your services will be used until they are done with you.
Office Politics is very plentiful and watch your back or be prepared to kiss backside!
Not a fun place to work, very oppressive and micro managed.
    That is just a summary...

Advice to Senior ManagementTreat everyone as an equal. Be professional. Communicate without misleading. Treat your employees like your most important resource. Don't believe everything you hear....go to the source.

    Scarred for life

    Human Resources (Former Employee)
    Olean, NY

ProsSmart and wonderful people in engineering and on the shop floor

ConsCulture of blame. Managers set people up to fail. Personnel turnover is so high in the management ranks that there is constant chaos.

Advice to Senior ManagementInvest in your employees. Focus on developing the leadership. Develop a positive culture by focusing on integrity in your processes and people. Recognized the accomplishments of your employees.

Used to be a good place

    Drafter - Contractor (Former Employee)
    Olean, NY

ProsFairly flexible on work hours. Most of the people are pretty good to work with. A lot of knowledge about a very narrow field there.

ConsTech center is the worst work environment ever. Poor choice of office equipment, ergonomically speaking. Software needs serious updating. A lot of machines still running NT with Office 97 of all things. Oracle is in place but hardly anyone knows how to use it effectively.

They almost refuse to hire any drafting help direct, unless you contract for at least a year or more. That means no vacation, no sick time and no benefits. Their benefits packages are terrible anyway. Extremely expensive for a family plan.

Anyone other than your direct supervisor doesn't care who you are or what you do. There's too much of "You ARE working this weekend, right?" going on. Too much is expected for not enough money.

Corporate management doesn't see any need for sharing profits with the people who actually make them the profits, but they can award themselves multi-million dollar bonuses every year.

Advice to Senior ManagementStart treating your employees better. Give them reasonably priced benefits and a sniff of the profits. The way this company is managed is why US manufacturing is going downhill.

DR is not a bad place to work

    Finance Manager (Current Employee)
    Houston, TX

ProsDR is a growing company that has some promise. Though there is room to advance you have to be one of the young bucks, the older folks go no where

ConsToo many new managers that crunch numbers but do not know the first thing about machinery. We are losing the expertise that made us a leader in our field

Advice to Senior ManagementGet the business systems fixed and depend on those people that have the experience, not the ones who do not know what a compressor looks like

DR Makes Money In Spite of Itself.

    Purchasing (Former Employee)
    Olean, NY

ProsThey inherited a unique business model and a great franchise.

ConsFrat-boy culture. Process Improvement is something they only talk about. Management populated by cast offs from United Technologies.

Advice to Senior ManagementPay people for what they do, not what (prep) school they attended.
