I have been working at Dresser-Rand full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Dresser-Rand is a $5+ billion, heavy hitter in the petroleum production market. The company, through acquisitions and mergers, has existed for some 150 years. They offer a competitive salary, with quality benefits. There is room for growth, for those willing to put in the work.

    Cons

Dresser-Rand is expanding rapidly, and such leads to common growing pains for any company. The raises do leave much to be desired. This is a unique service industry, so working late nights and weekends are a way of life

    I worked at Dresser-Rand full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Pay scale was great and one of the best in the area.

    Cons

Fellow older Union employees as well as supervisors and managers are out to protect their cliqs. In my situation and employee flat out lied to get me suspended and the manager of the department flat out agreed with the employee without even hearing my side. It took months of fighting to try to get my job back and ended with a settlement. This company has created a work environment where if you aren't accepted into a circle then you'll be fired/suspended once they cook up a good lie.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat each employee with respect. Don't assume that what one employee tells you is the honest truth. You have employees livelihoods in your hands and can tear families apart with poor, rash decisions. Learn to actually review both sides of a story and stop believing that employees with more time under their belts are honest. I had seen in my years with your company that the "old dogs" were the manipulators. Yet your managers and supervision teams ate it up and actually took orders from hourly employees on a regular basis.

    Pros

Great Company ! very friendly people! A lot of room to grow. Dresser-Rand has offices all over the globe.

    Cons

Location of the Worcester office is not very friendly. Other than that, Dresser-Rand is a great place to start your professional career.

    Pros

Some good people who want to perform at their job

    Cons

Upper management misrepresent their qualifications and take credit for those who really deserve it. Accounting procedures are not followed. Too many peacocks running the show.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of your friends and hire real engineers and MBAs

    Pros

Good money when we were busy . Great 401K and benefits.

I have been working at Dresser-Rand full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

I've worked in multiple positions and each manager I've had has been extremely helpful and personable. The industry is dynamic and it's fun and challenging to work for a company traded on Wall Street. The company is big enough to be a player in a very competitive industry but small enough that you can get noticed. Opportunities for advancement are out there if you make your intentions knows. Restricted Stock Units and Long Term Incentives are available for high performers (even non-management)

    Cons

Being a publicly traded company has it's drawbacks as well. You'll find yourself playing numbers games, especially at the end of months/quarters/years. Compliance, overbearing procedures/processes, and inconsistently applied cost cutting metrics can muddle your every day responsibilities. The product training is very good but basic training for your actual job (whatever it may be) seems hard to come by. Employees are often thrown to the fire and have to rely on peers for guidance.

I have been working at Dresser-Rand full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The people you will work with and get ot learn from are some of the smartest people you can ever meet.

    Cons

The potential for improvments within the company is great yet sad to say held back from doing so. The structure is so top (management) heavy that the little guys that do the work are not recognized as they could be.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't change it if it works well. Improve yes, there's always room for improvement but ORACLE / GSP is the worst thing that could have happened to this company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Employees have to work with an entrepreneurial attitude since there is not much guidance or motivation. Would be nice if management walked their talk.
