    Extreme lack of Respect by management in the Accounting/finance Department

    Pros

    The lower level employees are fantastic and very respectful of each other.

    Cons

    Management is atrocious, the workload and hours is similar to a sweat shop (this is because managers do receive a bonus so they force their employees to work like slaves so they can earn a larger bonus), the variance in pay from one job and employee to the next is embarrassing and the cronyism goes beyond that of the US government. No bonus is offered to any employees outside of management, yet employees are required to complete a PMP review. Although there is 3 weeks’ vacation it is actually accrued monthly, therefore if you leave your job in August and have used all 3 weeks, they will deduct this from your last paycheck. Previous large corps I have worked for will actually relieve you of your 2 week notice and pay you to assure there is no liability in the last weeks of employment (very smart move). Overall, this company does not act like a large corporation in any way shape or form. I could go on...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Restructure. Managers should strive to have their employees respect and like them and this management believes productivity is based on intimidation and fear of losing your job. They have the attitude that the employees are 'stuck' in their positions because a.) They may not have a degree and b.) the employees who do have degrees won't find similar employment in such a rural area; therefore they work on the pretense that management is the only department that should receive bonus', and raises can be nearly non-existent. They also enjoy the archaic belief that an employee, who has worked for the company for several years, has extensive knowledge and has demonstrated an extraordinary work ethic, cannot be promoted beyond a very low level position if they do not possess a college degree. DR dismisses many employees who would be exceptional in the management department due to this ridiculous policy. DR also greatly favors employees with an education from a certain institution just down the road, these employees get higher wages than others in the same positions solely based on the fact they attended this beloved institution.

    I worked at Dresser-Rand full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

    The company overall pays very well and you get 3 weeks of vacation right of the bat. There is an option to buy an extra week of vacation. However, there is no work / life balance.

    Cons

    I only spent few months in this company due to the negative environment in the finance department. There is a high turn over rate and employees are extremely unhappy there.

    Management tends to talk you down and even cross the line by yelling and screaming.

    The company overall pays very well and you get 3 weeks of vacation right of the bat. There is – more... an option to buy an extra week of vacation. However, there is no work / life balance.

    Also, forget about all the extra perks you may get in bigger companies.

    Overall, the culture in D-R is very harsh and cold

    Respect is key in a work environment. There is northing wrong with getting to know the people that work for you.

    Co-workers are nice as they are people.

    Cons

    treat employees harshly, never explain what they want-they assume you can read their mind and then when you do something wrong you get wacked for it-never knowing what hit your or why. HR is a joke as is manipulated by HQ and kept busy doing "piddly things".

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Management is full of bi-polar people who lie and manipulate their employees. All decisions are based on the dollar, thus the company runs behind as they are chasing the dollar ranther than fulflling their customers orders. They claim its to maximize shareholder value but in the end shareholder value is minimized.

    Pros

    Good Pay, better people. Money is good depending on the hours you work. The people that work here are second to none. Most are always willing to show you how to do a specific task properly.

    Cons

    Extended periods of time away from home. Weeks, months and sometimes several months away can give the family left at home a sense of detachment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    On jobs that will be 30 days or longer, offer to fly a spouse or loved one out to the location. This would boost moral on extended stays away from them and may even save a marriage or two.

    You don't get anywhere, even with promises. Dresser paid for me to get my Bachelor's degree, and I'm still at an entry level position, as an Administrative Assistant I.

    Exciting work, military contracts have added stability. More than fair in compensation in a region where there are not many options

    Cons

    Painfully low rate of reinvestment. Almost no progressive capital investing.

    Pick a strategy that is simple and direct. Commit and invest. Quit doing the rest and stop trying to do everything.

    Pros

    The money is good...that's about it. It is pathetic to know that you only work for the weekly paycheck.

    Cons

    Management is terrible. They have no clue as to what goes on each day. They spend (waste) a lot of time and energy trying to figure out new ways to screw over their employees and each other. If their customers knew what goes on, they would be out of business. The product quality has gone downhill. Cheaper materials, poor design, poor engineering, poor planning, foreign programmers who have no knowledge of machining. Wasted money on painting floors when there is no tooling. This place has all the "isms". Nepotism, favoritism, cronyism. If you don't "know" someone, forget it. They employ every union busting tactic in the book. Recently, that seems to be their main goal.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Come out onto the shop floor once in a while so you can see how bad it really is. Implement a comprehensive training program for all new hires and utilize the probationary period to weed out those who aren't progressing. Eliminate the "minimum requirement" rules that close the door to many potential bidders on jobs. Stop trying to take away our pay and benefits to line your pockets.
