I worked at Drexel University part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

This position provided me great industry experience that helped me get future internships and jobs. The hours were flexible and most of the work was done from home (or wherever I could take my laptop). I had input on what I got to work on and freedom to make large decisions for the project.

    Cons

Relative to the industry, the pay is not very high but is much higher than most jobs students work (e.g. retail, food, etc.). The program is also a bit too unorganized. There were times where it felt like I had little direction or feedback due to my supervisor's other responsibilities.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up the Student Assistant program! It's a great experience for students to put on their resumes and to talk about in interviews.

I have been working at Drexel University

    Pros

faculty and administrative staff is helpful and sometimes might go out of their way to help you

    Cons

Not good for postdoctoral fellow. There are a very few postdocs around. The place is good for graduate training, but for postdoctoral fellow position, it is not so good.

I worked at Drexel University part-time (more than a year)

    Cons

There not a lot of cons that could notice in the short time I worked there.

I have been working at Drexel University full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

If you want freedom to explore your skills, learn and try out ideas, develop your leadership style, and test out different professional approaches, this is the place for you.

    Cons

Low salary; merit is inflation rate (meaning no merit)
Over 40hr/wk is required to meet minimum job expectations even when the person is a high caliber employee.
    Unclear strategy
Diminishing leadership team with many new faces
Poor communication from leadership on direction; employees are finding out internal business news through third party sources like newspapers.
Disagreement and conflicting messages among leadership.
Insufficient investment on internal human resource assets.
No opportunity to establish work-life balance. Or even to take lunch.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop giving directives for change without communicating strategy and establishing a business case. The staff are behind you in your decisions, but grow exhausted by the exponentially increasing workload and decreasing staff count.
I've list three key positions in my department in the past year to do more work than ever before. This is beyond unreasonable.

I have been working at Drexel University full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Benefits package, coworkers, an opportunity to get education at much reduced rate (technically free but you pay only taxes of the actual tuition). The only thing to mention, not all the majors qualify for your free education.

    Cons

Lower salary, longer hours, smaller budgets meaning fewer opportunities for international trips for conferences or professional development programs. Overall, there are fewer cons than pros, so Drexel is a good place to work. So, consider....

    Pros

Outstanding colleagues, feel like I am part of an organization where i can believe in the mission. Working in the city is exciting and there are lots of options for lunch and entertainment.

    Cons

It's an educational institution and occasionally backward and bureaucratic. My boss is not a leader and is often inaccessible. As a suburban dweller, paying city taxes is a bit of a drag.
