    DMA rewards hard work.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsDuCharme, McMillen's culture is one of integrity and honesty and they place a high value on work ethics. Successful employees work hard and are financially rewarded well for their hard work. The company is small enough that you are able to get to know employees across the company.

ConsSometimes it is difficult to maintain a good work-life balance.

Advice to Senior ManagementContinue to be open in communications with employees.

Company is a below average place to work with very poor leadership

Senior Manager (Current Employee) Phoenix, AZ

ProsManagement will leave you alone if you do a good job.

ConsToo many to list. Terrible leadership-they have minimal education and outside experience. Have a very hard time selling. Poor commision program for the sales team. Not a good model for success. You have to kiss the top management's a$$ if you want to be successful. They don't care how good you are as long as you kiss up. management doesn't care about lower level employees nor want to promote them.

Advice to Senior ManagementThey don't take advice. It is their way or the highway. If you don't go with the flow, you are viewed negatively. Many great people have left over the years and are more successful elsewhere.

Fine as long as you kiss the right @$$es

    Consultant (Former Employee) Phoenix, AZ

ProsThere were some great consultants/managers/directors, etc. but it seems the best ones end up going to competitors for better money, better career advancement, and more appreciation.

ConsA lot of backstabbing and undermining. The directors and managers get all the glory while the individual contributors are left to quietly do their jobs with meager bonuses and very little recognition. Very little accountability for managers who are bringing in big fees. As long as you're making money for the company you're allowed to treat people like crap.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake a real close work at the turnover and ask yourselves some hard questions. Either managers don't know how to hire the right people or they just don't know how to manage and don't have the patience to develop good employees.

Great place to work if your at the end of your career

    Tax Analyst (Former Employee)

ProsWork life balance, employee owned so most employees care about work and performance. some real talented analysts and managers.

ConsUpper Management's lack of business plan and approach to growing the company, which they hide under the guise of "slow and steady growth"

The sales people or DNA's are virtually useless having little or no technical knowledge in what they are selling.

lack of advancement for lower level employees due to lack of sizeable growth on all levels. Managers don't get promoted and so sr. analysts don't either and so on, this leads to turnover on the analyst level.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet some new upper management in place starting with CEO and COO, new vision and sales approach.

Quiet company with strong and steady growth

    (Current Employee)

ProsGiven a great deal of respect as an employee
    No micromanagement
Good work is rewarded with compensation and acknowledgement
    Very stable financially
    Steady and sustainable growth
Senior management has long tenure in the industry
Client list includes the biggest companies in the world – it’s been a great experience working with these clients
    Privately held company

ConsThe firms focus is highly specialized – can also be a good thing
    Some travel for client work
Stability sometimes misinterpreted as stagnation by some co-workers – can also be a good thing
Management is generally flexible and hands-off – if you need frequent direction and on-going oversight it can be a little uncomfortable

Advice to Senior ManagementContinue to provide financial rewards and acknowledgement to high performing employees
Keep up the steady sustainable growth
Don’t try to grow beyond the capabilities of the firm

    DMA is an excellent organization.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsWell-respected by clients and government, small enough to make a personal impact and large enough to serve some of the largest corporations in the US.

ConsRequires significant committment and hard work - but that would be true for any organization worth going to work for...so not really a "con".

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep doing what you are doing. DMA has some of the best tax talent in the industry, and this is one industry where the "people" are the "product".

    DMA

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsGreat work life balance, Good Benefits, Good people

Conssmaller Tax Consulting firm, Limited growth opportunities due to size of firm and limited service offerings within each division. Lack of professional training that you might find at a larger more full scale tax firm.

Advice to Senior Managementcompany needs to grow at a swifter pace in order to allow people within the organization to continue to move up the ladder. Associates and senior associates can feel a bit stagnant due to limited growth of overall company as well as each service division.
