I have been working at DuPont as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Pay, benefits, positive attitude, interesting work. Haven't been there long enough to judge management quality. They pay co-ops based on credits completed towards their degree which I believe is fair.

    Cons

Very large, has bureaucratic safety policy that most big chemical companies have. If you work at a production site, the work environment can be hazardous.

I worked at DuPont full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Excellent support from the management team to do research
Positive feedback and encouragement even during a setback in our attempts

    Cons

Not requiring accountability from less productive employees, at times.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

DuPont has been a great company for over 200 years since its founding by Mr. E.I DuPont, an immigrant from France.. Please make it continue as a shining great company by requiring accountability from every employee..

Current Employee - Research Scientist in Palo Alto, CA

I have been working at DuPont full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Interesting technology
    Trying to "green" the economy
    Great culture in Palo Alto

    Cons

    No growth opportunities
Management cares more about saving money (at everyones expense) instead of investing into new platforms or its employees
    Old boys club mentality
No concrete information on how to get promoted or get good annual reviews

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It feels like a sinking ship. Revenue hasn't grown in a number of years. Forcing sig sigma on researchers is an unproven strategy that never worked for GE or Motorola. How bad do things have to get before constructive changes are made.

    Pros

salary and benefits and co workers.

    Cons

excessive amount of work, with ridiculous deadlines. Training implemented is often useless. Leadership is only used to dictate, not guide or listen. All resources for employees, are untrustworthy, and don't assist the employee at all. You're never right.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    hire experienced managers.

I worked at DuPont as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Worked with the best team. People were super nice and well coming and very open minded. They all also have an open door policy

    Cons

It is the middle of the summer so it might be hard to motivate yourself to go to the plant in protective gear.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

To continue what is going on in the plant. Although the process is not perfect, definitely continue to employ people like the ones I worked with

I worked at DuPont full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Work-life balance
    Flex work hours
    Job security

    Cons

    Bureaucratic decision making process
    Lack of strong developmental leaders
Not many opportunities for early advancement

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The company has been going through a substantial transformation over the past few years as they shift focus to Ag and Industrial Bio-sciences businesses. As this transformation is complete there is a need to align the business structure with these businesses. The bonus structure is not designed well for encouraging top performers. This creates complacency as there is little financial benefit between a poor rating and an excellent rating.
