    Decent work environment

    Current Employee - Anonymous Employee
    Current Employee - Anonymous Employee

    Pros

    (1) Paid well (2) very safety conscious (3) research is supported well (4) super nice people to work with (5) flexible work hours (6) vacation is generous and used at employees own discretion.

    Cons

    (1) Employee rating system: Employees may be rated as underperforming even though they meet all expectations. System causes animosity amongst employees and very low moral. (2) No clear description for path to promotion (3) Respect for People is a core value however it is an oxymoron because of (a) the Employee rating system, (b) the large number of year to year contractor employees. How can you plan your life with a year to year contract, minimal vacation, and no benefits, (c) slashed medical benefits.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do not blame the "indians" when the "chiefs" are making all of the bad decisions. Focus on a well developed business plan with direction and implement the plan longer a year. Get feedback from rank and file employees. Employees are fearful of speaking out and being honest because of Rating/Ranking System.

    Pros

A very reputed company with many great inventions in the 1930-1980. It also carries many valuable brand name. One of the most ethical and safety conscious company. Good for dual-career couple. Many talented scientists and engineers in Corporate Experimental Station.

    Cons

Lately, more and more young professionals rose upquickly to management position within a BU without a deep understanding of the foundation of the technology/business. None of the young generation management is a true risk taker but driving more towards conscensus. It makes the decision process extremely lengthy, ineffective and often time wrong decision. They are also more short-term focused for immediate results and neglect the need of a balance for mid-term and long-term development.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Succession plan and development at every level needs to be carried out in a meaningful way, not just for the formality. A true leader is one who know how to lead a business with a balance short-, mid- and long-term strategy and plan.

    Pros

Great group to work with; most employees have been here for their whole career and are always willing to coach and mentor. This culture screams work/life balance.

    Cons

Large company with offices all over the US; not the best at connecting and staying on the same page.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Allow leaders to emerge and empower them. Don't be so cautious to make a move and feel the need to hold several conference calls when proposing something "new". Innovation is years behind other large corp.
