I have been working at DuPont as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

The people at DuPont really practice what they preach when it comes to the core values which is great to see in such a large, and established corporation. The work was slow at times, but everyone was so helpful and willing to talk with me so I could get a more broad sense of the company and different functions.

    Cons

    Work was slow and boring.

I worked at DuPont full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Good pay and relatively good benefits. This is about the only "pro" from my perspective. I can only speak about the Spruance facility as it was the only site I saw.

    Cons

80 year old plant with 80 year old culture. They have not moved into the 21st century yet. No focus on customers or employees, only on the shareholder.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take care of your customers and employees and your shareholders will get taken care of by default. Reversing that order will not allow you to attract and retain good talent.

I have been working at DuPont full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

It's been around a long time, and stable for the most part. The pay is decent.

    Cons

The benefits were once great, but they keep chipping away. A lot of uncertainty with spinoffs and downsizing and a total change in the direction of the company. Also, the reasons for promoting or not promoting are a bit baffling. There are golden boys/girls who get the best opportunities. Also a lot of inefficiency, dead wood and people doing very little work, while others are working their butts off.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Actually BE transparent instead of saying you are going to be.

On going organization regineering, weak career development.

I have been working at DuPont full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Strong company culture centered on core values, with emphasis on ethics and safety. The team members who I work with are passionate, logical, and helpful.

    Cons

Comparatively decent work-life balance and medical benefits. Leadership seems to be driven by wall street expectations than blazing a new trail to define their own destiny.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Employees could use more help with drawing up the right scope of decision and power that optimizes decision making without the need for meetings after meetings to prepare the discussion with senior leaders who in the end would like to hand-off the decision.

I have been working at DuPont full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Good compensation and benefits. Many opportunities for growth because of the variety of businesses. Lots of variety in the company portfolio.

    Cons

Our part of DuPont's businesses is being 'spun off' and we are hemorrhaging talent and experience. Lack of communication does not help in high-stress scenarios, and we are in a holding pattern.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide more opportunities for work at home or telecommuting to save money, instead of farming out American jobs to other countries.

I have been working at DuPont as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

One of the main focuses are not only making a profit and meeting goals, but respecting each other and creating a positive work environment. Interns get very competitive pay. Engineers seem to have a great work-life balance here, no crazy hours.

    Cons

Interns do not get involved in meatier projects, which is unfortunate. Possibly because of security of information, or believing that interns cannot handle more? I don't know.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Interns are only a few classes shy of being qualified engineers, please don't be afraid to give them some responsibility.

I have been working at DuPont full-time

    Pros

Great sick time policy - you will need it. Great medical - you will need it.

    Cons

Salary increases are less than the cost of living, so you earn less the longer you stay. You also get copious amounts of meaningless work that does keep you busy all day, but never feel accomplished about it. Just more "hamster on the wheel" work to look forward to.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please hire capable replacements for yourselves and quit. It is unbelievable how little the decision makers know about the decisions they have made. For the minions to do our best work, we need to feel you are engaged and supportive, not hiding out making up silly rules all day long.

I worked at DuPont full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Great Pay and benefits, Great company to work for.

    Cons

I did not receive any training, I worked there for 7 months and was left to flounder on my own. I know how to do the work but not how they would like the work to be done, nor proper training on all the systems that are used. No direction what so ever, I am by no means unable to learn or figure things out on my own, but a company like that should train better. I am not the first that this has happened to either in this plant.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Train non-production employees as well as operators are trained.
