If you're a contract employee, get used to being second class and unappreciated.

Contract IT Specialist (Current Employee) Richmond, VA

ProsMany good people to work with.
    Great name recognition on resumes
Some managers (now retired) were very supportive and nurtured a good environment for growth and for reaching potential.

ConsMany people are promoted who don't qualify and don't have the skills to manage.
Office politics is rampant, and stifling.
People in management positions are out of touch with reality.
Consultants from the "big guys" are treated okay, but contract IT employees without the backing of a major consulting firm are screwed.
Some managers micromanage, rather than trusting their employees not to be morons.

Advice to Senior ManagementOnly promote people to management who truly deserve it. Trust your employees to know their jobs. Hire good people directly.

Old chemical company jsut barely stays ahead of competitors.

    Engineer (Former Employee) Richmond, VA

ProsGood Pay, relatively good benefits. Looks liek there's advancement potential...but you need to do it the duPont way.

ConsYou need to do things the duPont way. Hiring processes at some facilities wasn't always kept continuous and it results in out of balance work crews. Think: the average age ina plant is 50 years with 30 years of service. How does a young person start in that plant? How about the difficulty of a much younger engineer asking much older operators to do something?

Advice to Senior ManagementI suppose that they do their best, but the workder demographics must be more finely worked out.
