    Pros

Helping students with Multivariable Calculus, a subject that I personally enjoy, and a lot of free time.

    Cons

Nothing I can say really. Probably change shifts to a more convenient time, but that's the only detail.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you're doing, it's great.

    Pros

Great HR assistance with parking/ID card/scheduling. The professor was great as well as the students in the lab and the support staff was very timely and helpful if you ever needed to submit a work order. I never really had any interaction with CEO level personnel but if you had a favorable review every year they were good at giving you their raise and networking within the University system was priceless.

    Cons

Parking was complicated and expensive if you had to commute to work with your car and you have to remember that even if you fulfill your hours you still have to touch base with your PI on their hours to complete your projects.

    Advice to Management

Weekly checking in with employees, it doesn't have to take long, just something short to maybe relate to non-work topics and check in to see their comfortability with the position as well as coworkers to aid with any problems or issues in order to maximize production.

    Pros

Well funded. Remarkable access to resources. Peer recognition. Highly specialized opportunities. Limited regulatory/oversight constraints. Great seminars and professional events. Low cost of living.

    Cons

Limited breadth of specialization. Limited representation/involvement of underserved groups and demographics. Strong emphasis on economic gain/interests for an academic institution. Locally concentrated power structures. Minimally regulated management practices

    Advice to Management

Increase diversity not only in workforce, but also in approach, worldview and value systems. Encourage, facilitate and enforce ethical and savory management/business practices.

    Pros

    -Nothing too demanding
-Decent starting pay for a work study job
-You set your own hours, though they do ask you to work one night a week and one weekend per month

    Cons

-New management forbade doing homework or even using a computer at the service desk. On slow days this means you sit there and stare into space for the 90% of the time that there is nobody in the store. Excruciatingly boring.
-Management is in general pretty disconnected from students, and pretty much all of the lower employees hate their jobs which makes working there somewhat miserable.

    Advice to Management

Hire somebody young who can actually connect to students and manage them in a reasonable way.

    Pros

This is a great place to work at. The co-workers, management, and clientele are for the most part, amazing people. It truly is a pleasant community as long as you are well-behaved and aware of others' needs.

The store itself is beautifully laid out and although mainly selling high-end products, there are promotional offers and sales on a frequent basis.

Duke Campus is gorgeous and adjacent facilities are worth visiting.

    Cons

Temporary workers hired through staffing agencies are short-changed from the benefits that Duke employees enjoy, despite doing the same type and amount of work, sometimes more. It is very disheartening for a committed "temporary" worker to be paid significantly less than her co-workers despite sharing the same responsibilities.

The constant change in shifts brings conflicts to employee's stability. The hours and days change on a bi-weekly basis. Lunch and break hours also seem to change also on a daily basis, which makes for unhealthy eating and resting habits.

Lastly, although very understandable, the activities that take place in this store are subject to the many activities that take place in the university, particularly when it regards Alumni and Athletes. This complicates further trying to plan ahead your personal life.

Parking in this university is a nightmare.

    Advice to Management

Give employees incentives to strive and become more ambitious. This store has cashiers who have been working there for decades. Their inertia leaves very little room for professional growth.
Use e-mail to communicate with employees as an additional channel of communication to word-of-mouth.

Ensure that new employees receive a proper orientation on how to operate around campus, where to park, and a 90-day preview of activities to come for proper professional and personal planning.

    Pros

good benefits, beautiful campus, friendly coworkers, reputable, research seems to be easily fundable due to reputation of the university

    Cons

horrible parking available, limited room for advancement, unfair distribution of work among coworkers, unaccomplishable standards set for employees, high turn over

    Advice to Management

Understand your workers worth before they leave. Remember to score accomplishments fairly among all coworkers (hard work should be acknowledged and if a coworker stands out from the rest, compensate them accordingly
