I have been working at Duke University Health System full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, Great opportunities for advancement regardless of your experience and career level. Looks great on a resume and certainly has provided me with a great deal of enrichment in life.

    Cons

Transfer pay rules are extremely backwards and do not reward their best employees as they should. It is unfortunate that to really get paid what you are worth you have to transfer out of Duke and attempt to get back in...make sure you don't burn bridges!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to promote from within, but consider revising the promotion rules to allow for greater variation between different job levels. Would create more motivation and more employee loyalty.

I have been working at Duke University Health System full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Great people, feeling of contributing to the greater good, supportive, tuition reimbursement, great benefits, collegiality. Overall, it is a wonderful place to work.

    Cons

There is so much bureaucracy and risk management that it often works to the detriment of development and progress. Highly focused on MDs rather than the interdisciplinary dynamics that make Duke great.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus less on the MDs and more on the interdisciplinary dynamics that make this place great. Losing the rest of the interdisciplinary team to other institutions who value them more will be of great detriment to Duke.
