    Cons

No opportunity to grow or possibility for promotion, postdoctoral slave for the rest of life.

I worked at Duke University Health System full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

One of the best attributes working for this company would be the excellent training you receive as a new graduate nurse. They offer tons of classes that are mandatory and they have dedicated preceptors who must be certified in a course before they are allowed to precept. Strong reputation which allows for unlimited potential for growth. Bragging rights!

    Cons

One of the challenges with working here as anyone else will agree with is the hourly rate. My research has found that this is the lowest paying in the area with pretty pricey monthly parking costs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to promote the work culture! It motivates employees and promotes happiness!

    Pros

Duke has excellent benefits and the people who work here are very nice and very professional! Looks good to have Duke University on your resume.

    Cons

The paid leaves a little bit to be desired. I wouldn't come here looking to make big money. Promotions are hard to come by in the research labs. They hardly ever promote people.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay better and give more promotions!

I have been working at Duke University Health System part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

High reputation will give you great exit opportunities if you decide to leave. Otherwise, Duke is a prestigious place to grow within. As a student working part time, I have seen the positive effect of having Duke on your CV.

    Cons

Navigating the bureaucracy like any major system.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Connect more with the staff, especially lower level. I've had to make the effort to meet with my top division management. I wish they made an effort to reach out as well.

    Pros

It's a job, the co-workers are helpful to new employees. Benefits are good.

    Cons

Takes a long time to get hired if you don't know anybody. Some of the leaders have no management experience.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do not wait so long to terminate the bad managers.

I worked at Duke University Health System

    Pros

You see interesting cases. The EMR is also helpful in review patient files

    Cons

Clinic schedule is over-booked and rarely finishes on time. Due to the lack of time scheduled for each appointment, patients are usually kept waiting for 30-60+ minutes before they are put in a room.
