I have been working at Duke University

    Pros

Love the bright and engaged colleagues and students I work with at Fuqua School of Business
    Good work-life balance
My work is interesting and intellectually stimulating
Tuition benefit at Duke is a huge perk that I will take advantage of when my kids reach college age

    Cons

Salary is on par with other universities, but of course not comparable to private sector
    Career path is very unclear
Business schools are run like schools, not businesses -- that is, we teach management best practices in the classroom, but do not operate our own institution with the efficiency, innovation, or leadership of a business

I have been working at Duke University full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Extremely stimulating place to be. Full of opportunities and professional growth. Wonderful location. Relaxed paced but with all the opportunities of a big city.

    Cons

Very political in the Humanities, extremely ideological, which makes sometimes difficult to make research, because everybody is following a political agenda instead a knowledge quest.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay more to Graduate students in the Humanities and be careful about who is the DGS in each department. They can be awesome scholars, but some of them just are terrible, I insist, terrible, dealing with the stressful life of a grad student.
