I have been working at Duke University full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Getting a job at Duke can be tough, but once you have your foot in the door, there are many opportunities to move throughout the university. The university is loyal to its employees.

    Cons

One of the pros is also a con - the university is very loyal to its employees, even those that do not do their jobs well. It is hard to get fired from Duke, so there are people that work here that have been here for many, many years that do not do well in their job functions - they are just "coasting along" doing the bare minimum to meet the requirements.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reward the employees that go above and beyond consistently and pay closer attention to those that are just "coasting" as they are what keeps the university from being at the top of its game.

    Cons

There is a view that you should be happy that Duke has allowed you to be part of the organization. so salaries and perks are minimal.
